No doubt Bevo has been a breath of positivity around the club and in addition we have recruited extremely well, I think of the nine new players only Zaine Cordy hasn't played AFL they have all made very positive impressions. Zaine Cordy will debut this year and IMO is the pick of the bunch.

Very exciting times ahead under an outstanding coach.

If you think the saints missed getting a bloke who has been a saint and around them for 30+ years through lack of due diligence ... think again! I would argue we know bevo better than anyone and chose richo accordingly.

What in the hell are you on about? You do realise beveridge only played 45 out of his 118 games for st kilda? He spent just as much time at Melbourne and slightly less at the bulldogs as a player.

As for you choosing Richo over him - beveridge wasn't even available at that point. You had hired him as your director of coaching though, right before he came to us

True no hard facts yet. Just an opinion of who and what I know.

I would argue we know bevo better than anyone and chose richo accordingly. IMO Richardson will become the next clarko. He is a tactical genius wih everyting else you need.
Dont get me wrong BEVO is a great coach! Knows how to communicate the players will know the message and where they are at. Im only saying Richo is slightly more radical and tactical and slightly more professional and slightly a better teacher.
Anyway pointless saying it now as we are literally 5 years away from seeing this. Im justvgetting in early for bragging rights of being right big noting myself for the future!
:)

This is pure waffle. You don't know if any of these statements regarding Beveridge/Richardson are even close to being true. Beveridge didn't even apply for the StKilda job so Richardsons appointment as coach of the Saints has no reflection on Beveridge whatsoever.

No surprise they are going well. Macca got the basics sorted and recruited well, the trouble makers have been shown the door, and Bevvo is a great coach who has come in and put it all together.
I keep hearing this from all the BMac apologists in the media (Bomber, Roosy, Lingy, Harley when he was in the media) - we were already top 4 in the competition in CP's and clearances during the Rocket PF years. All BMac did was obsessively focus on one thing to the complete and utter detriment of everything else. I've never seen someone so completely out of his depth as a senior coach against his contemporaries, and that includes Peter Rohde and Royce Hart - development coach is his absolute ceiling. As for recruiting, kudos needs to go to the recruiting manager for the selections.

His only positive legacy at the Dogs was to push for our own stand-alone VFL team - it was a great call 2 years ago that has since been vindicated. For that alone, BMac can and should be applauded.

Thats debatable, Very debatable. Beveridge is a fantastic coach who brought St Bernard's from divi 3, to divi 1 in 3 years and has learned so much from fantastic coaches. There is no reason why Beveridge or Richardson should be slated above each other, as both have done a fantastic job

Think it was St.Bedes...

They should erect a statue of Brendon McCartney at Whitten Oval when they win the flag in 2016 or 2017, nothing is surer than a Dogs flag within the next 2- 3 years! McCartney will not get his due, but that's football.

We can thank McCartney for our greatest development tool (the Footscray VFL team) as others have alluded to, but it's clear with hindsight that he was a poor senior coach - something I didn't want to believe at the time.

Any Footscray fan with more than a passing knowledge will give him his due - our talent identification & development had never been better than when he was in charge.

But this is definitely Beveridge's side playing Beveridge's brand of football, and he deserves the lion's share of the credit. What he's done with a squad so depleted and youthful is utterly remarkable.

Also, lol at the bloke claiming the Saints picked Richo over him, as if that's some indictment on Beveridge. He didn't even put his hand up for the job, and who's to say now which will prove the more accomplished coach?

Typical Geelong supporter wanting to give McCartney credit when he deserves zero. Zilch.
Even ignoring the fact he fostered a culture that led to a player revolt and the captain walking out on the club, it's an indictment on his tactical nous as a coach where he spouted three years of rubbish "contested ball" and how it would take a while to fix it and teach such poor tactics to the team and in one off-season and with worse players a new coach has been able to implement new tactics and take us to top 4.

A lot of Dogs and opposition fans alike are saying how surprised that we're not a bottom 4 club this season - but I'm one of the few that isn't. I said for the entirety of the 3 years as coach how poor McCartney was tactically, how stupid his "contested ball" mantra was, and when we were winning what few games we did it was because of the natural brilliance of Griffen, Stringer, Bontempelli etc and inspite of the coaching, and not because of it, and it's proven true when with just one pre-season and a new coach (one in Bev who is a masterstroke), that isn't McCartney.

We can be glad the only player who was better than Tutt and Jones that walked out on the club under McCartney helped us get Tom Boyd. It could have been worse.

You're getting Higgins confused - he didn't have anything to do with the Tom Boyd trade?

I think McCartney set the foundations for what we're seeing now with the Dogs. He is a terrific development coach, and not such a great match day coach. Beveridge has been awesome, as he's brought the right game plan for the young blokes to play. Instilled the right attitude into them too. I wish them well for the finals.

Well your lot might be 5 years away. But I guess that's the point....

In 2010, McCartney was voted the AFL's assistant coach of the year by the AFL Coaches' Association while at Geelong. He moved to Essendon before joining the Dogs in 2012. Everyone in the industry knows what McCartney did for the Dogs, (it's all good news) McCartney is a great development coach and the Dogs are reaping the benefits of it now. Beveridge has the weight of every Bulldogs supporter on his shoulders now as they wait expectantly for that elusive flag. He has been hand delivered a super team, something really out of the ordinary would have to happen for them to fail from here. It's 2016 or 2017 for a flag, anything less and Beveridge will have some explaining to do!

If McCartney was at the helm we'd still be playing an outdated stoppage based game with players wanting to leave the club.
