Luke Rounds and Josh Thomas..

For those who are interested (basically everyone excluding the hater Blaze). I know it's hard to see, but note the moonboot on JT's right leg.

Fingers crossed it isn't too serious.

Both injured at present. Dont think it is anything to major with Thomas, he wouldn't be walking round on it or doing drills (albiet basic ones) if it was serious.

Rounds also didn't particpate in training yesterday.

Wasn't Luke Rounds the "next great thing" in our premiership year. There are people in this forum that change favourite players more often than teenage girls change shoes. I thought he looked reasonably solid in that short collection of games where he played half-back. If he had a touch of brilliance about him, he would have been picked up earlier in the draft so I'm not surprised that he hasnt looked like instant superstar material.

Josh Thomas needs to string a few games together in the seniors before anyone can make a judgement.

I think a lot is going to depend on how Nathan Buckley reacts to last year's loss. Personally, I dont see the point of guys like Rounds and Thomas unless they are super-zippy. I think both are undersized and this reduces flexibility in the team.

A foot injured in the preseason is major, puts him totally behind the competition in terms of fitness and we know how important a good preseason is, especially for somone on the fringe.
Hope he turns into a superstar, but in a year or two he'll be on the chopping block i reckon

Saw Jt at summafieldayze music festival 2 days ago on gold coast. He looks a touch undersized, will he debut in 2012? Is overdue.

So JT is both injury prone and under-sized. The boy does not have a lot going for him given the leap from VFL to AFL. Why is he at music festivals when he could be stetching himself on a home-made rack?

His Constant Injuries would not help at all with his Body Development either

His also very one dimensional and imo lacks the general skills to be a great afl player. Im sure others will disagree though, this forum is full of JT lovers
I'm not sure what that has to do with his size. It would also be interesting to know how many of his games you've watched to make this judgement too, let alone how many games he's even played for the VFL side. It's a bit of an outlandish remark IMO for someone who has played so little games but often played well when he has.

Lacks general skills? I'd classify him as one of the best handballs at the club. Up there in the Pendlebury stratosphere who i'd say is one of the best in the comp. If not the best. The other side of the skills equation is his kicking. I haven't noticed anything notable but nothing cringeworthy either. In other words acceptable.

Buckley: "Hey Luke, I logged onto BigFooty last night and saw that a few of the fellas on the 'Pies board are really concerned that you're not going to make it. That's got me quite worried and I reckon we're going to have to do something about that ..."

It absolutely shits me to tears doing this (because he's never seen Thomas play), but what blaze said is correct. We all realise he's a little one dimensional, he also said he lacks the general skills to be a great player and TBH on that front he's probably correct. If we say his handballing is up there and his kicking is adequate that IMO means he isn't skillful enough to become a great player.

I think a comparison of the sort of player we'd all be hoping JT could be is Daniel Cross or Jobe Watson (pre 2011). They were/ are good to very good players, but not great players. What stands out is their skill by hand and their ability to read the play, which are both key attributes of Josh's.

As it is all the hyperbole over injuries, is just that! At this point in 2011 how many of you could genuinely say that Luke Shuey would have the season he had? He was injured for the 3rd pre-season in a row (much the same as JT is now) and look at his 2011. IMO the players aren't all that far apart talent wise (obviously Shuey is ahead though) its athletic ability that Shuey really shines.

Buckley will give him a shot if he manages to get fit (which is more likely than not), because he's previously said that he wants to give the young kids a chance. So its probably best to back him and Rounds in for now.

Handballing has been fine, kicking is average (will struggle at AFL level) marking is again average. I guess we will have to agree to disagree, should deffintily found out next year whether his a star or a dud (provided he isnt injured the majority of the season)

Not really, both he and Sinclair didn't exactly set the world on fire when given their opportunities. Doesn't mean they won't make it, just a bit slow off the mark.

For mine, Josh Thomas and Seedsman have always been the most exciting prospects of the four, they just haven't had a shot as yet.

What pure and unadulterated rubbish!! We will not know if he will be a star or otherwise in his first season at AFL level.

There is so few players that you can call like that. Over the last few years the ones that stand out to me are Martin, Franklin, Pendlebury and Selwood that really just went bang and showed it in their first year. Others showed glimpses, but most of them are yet to become true stars of the game like Hurley, Naitanui and Rioli.

Sometimes there is more romance to be captured from the unknown. I've never seen the lad play, but combine everything people say about him here, and you've got something approximating the dog's breakfast.

He's luke ball but small, a runt of a guy whose skills and size make Blair look like Harvey of the Kangas compared to Thomas.

He's a poor man's Thomas, you might say, given we have another one that is obviously so much better. But not so much better, we are told, at extracting the pill from the pack, at which the lesser Thomas is the better Thomas.

Then there are the indefinable elements that make a player. If Thomas cannot kick, do we then anticipate rapier-like handballs from beneath a scrum of players, and that face-first, Ball-like mad pursuit of the pill into packs dominated by men of action and real size?

Is the tiny, one-dimensional man with courage and hands, but a foot like Barham junior, going to rise to his reputation and vindicate our faith or lack of itl?

Will the succession from Ball be smooth? Can Little Thommo share the same heart as his big namesake? Can Bucks teach him how to drill the pill? Stay tuned in 2012.
