I love the bloke and rate him very highly. I was absolutely stunned beyond belief when he wasnt named to play this week. I cant fathom how Matthew Carr or even someone like Crowley who hasnt been pulling up trees lately is getting a game ahead of him. It just seems idiotic to drop ya best disposer of the ball when thats been the problem

What did you think of this decision?

Carr had a good game and is more versatile than Webster. Crowley has much more pace which is a big issue for us. Webster has been fine, but is never going to be much more than a handy depth player sitting somewhere between 15-30 on our list. He will be in and out depending on different factors. May be in next week if Solomon goes.

What's that go to do with dropping Webster? His disposal is good. Lacks depth. But he is nowhere near our best "disposer", and anyway he doesn't get enough of it.

Surely you can see hes been one of your better players this season. He certainly wasnt deserving of being dropped.

not sure why webster was dropped. We have a lot of dead wood through the centre and he should of got a game.

How well did he play in Geelong?

The guy is the type of player who will play that negating role and does it well, there was never a spot for him this week and Solly has been playing better the last few games anyway.

I rate Headland's disposal as superior as well. For someone with such good disposal he surely made a mess of that goal from 5 metres out in Geelong.

But it all comes down to match ups, who was he going to play on in the Saints team??

Was the team worse off out there without him??

I agree that Webster is currently no more than a depth player. I don't think we missed him out there on Friday night, and unless we lose Solly this week, I can't see him coming back in. Solly's contribution to the team has been consistently more than what Webster has provided.

I know this is Embers posting, but seriously, posters that advocate Cook, Webster, Solomon etc being picked week in week out need to have a look at their posession stats. Add into that players like Peake (good to see him back but he had an okay return and is not at his best yet) and Collard (who was out of his depth at this stage in his career) and we would have a seriously unbalance team.

All three of Cook, Solomon and Webster would be a selection disaster. Great tackling. Slow and low posessions. Ordinary disposal.

Too many rookie players or players coming back from injury is also highly risky.

Both Cook and Collard will be under pressure to retain their spots next week.

Doctor Peter Larkins said on The Suday Footy Show that Headland's injury will probably see him miss 2 weeks, Webster will probably be his replacement.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Headland, Solomon and Johnson are all available to play the pies.

Solomon had 19 possessions and a goal, I thought he played well Friday night.

He wasn't the worst performer in the side against the Cats, so why was he dropped?

Because the combination of Solomon, Cook and Webster makes us ultra slow. Solomon has been better for us this year, and to be honest the decision between him and Cook is borderline; I'd prefer Webster. I don't think he was being punished.

Webster has great disposal by foot nto our forward half. That in itself should mean he gets selected over M Carr every week.

I am by no means a fan of Matthew Carr, never have been, never will be, but I think sometimes we underestimate the job that he is given by the match committee. He DOES shut down an opposition player most weeks. He doesn't however hurt the opposition the other way, which is what most shut-down players have developed in their games. Unfortunatley, I don't think we have anyone else that does the job as well as he does.

I agree that he doesnt get it enough.I do believe he was a victim of the situation where they wanted to try Collard for crumbing, keep in kiwi,a fired up cook for jcarr and get peake, thorton in for some game time at home against a undermanned saints.Just wondering who he would of replaced if he played because I cant think of anyone.

Cook...similar attributes with better disposal...

I thought cook was in for Jcarr and is more an in and under player

Cook does not win the ball like a Hasleby for instance.

Webster would have played for Cook, but I suspect Cook got a game for indigenous round. You would expect Webster back in for Cook this weekend.

Cook also has an impact when he plays once every 3 or 4 weeks.

i was calling for webster to be dropped for the geelong game

he is a good players, solid but we have too many of his type in the team. I cant see him forcing his way back too soon.

Took your advice and found that Solomans stats are fairly impressive. For example he averages 13 possies which is fantastic for a player playing a defensive role. He also averages 6 tackles a game!
To put this in perspective Headland has averaged 17 possies, consider that he got 30 odd in one game which would push the average up, and Headland only averages 2 tackles a game, all their (Headland and Soloman) other stats are more or less the same.
Should Headland be picked week in week out Gav?
