Having watched about a zillion junior footy games, those who have more skills, develop better awareness as they have more options to choose from - their play book dictionary just has more entries. How they use them is the key .. if you are courageous, athletic and have a few tricks, you can get away with some skill difficencies ( witness Scott Lucas ! ) but if you can go left and right ...

One of the best natural options is to be left handed / right footed ( or visa versa ) .. never stuck for a solution ( unless you kick goals ! ).

We need more newbies like paddle!

Play Book Dictionary? Sounds like you follow NFL! Obviously it's preferable that we have more players who can kick with both feet but, honestly, how many players in the league would you back going for goal on their non-prefered foot especially in a tight situation? The only one I can think of who could do it regularly enough used to play for us and is now at the bulldogs.

Yes more than the Lions coaching team and Leigh in particular.

I have to kinda disagree, acuguy. Correct me if my logic might be out of whack with this one, but do you think Lethal would draft players knowing they are underskilled to play AFL? Recruiters spend their life analysing young players and I couldn't imagine Lethal would pick players that were underqualified for the job.

Yeah, recruiters have to look at a number of different things when assessing the value of a player. I think it's a mistake to make judgements on our recruiting based solely on their ability to kick on the non-preferred.

I reckon Nathan Brown and Cam Mooney could quite easily .. but probably not on the run from outside 50.

What we want are players who are highly skilled on their preferred foot and competent on their non preferred foot.

As for recruiting players, you obviously don't just base it on their ability to kick with their non preferred foot:eek:

But i am sure one of the hardest part to recruiting is knowing whether or not the young player will be able to transfer the skills and ability shown in junior/underage competitions to the big stage of the AFL.
