It's easy to forget just how well regarded Damian Drum was in AFL circles when he was appointed though - he was very much "the next one in line" as Rodney Eade's assistant, and actually chose Fremantle over Collingwood who were very keen to give Tony Shaw the axe at the end of 1998. Of course, Mark Neeld was almost as highly regarded thanks to Mick's spruiking, so it proves that sometimes you just never know who'll turn out to be a dud.

As for Ross, it's very welcome but not entirely unexpected news. I'm glad he sees that he can shepherd a competitive team through the departure of the three pillars - it's whether or not he gets another new deal after this one that intrigues me. Will he stay on, will he leave on good terms with the club or will it be another messy ending?

I think he's saying he predicted the 2 year extension and others (bushie) doubted him.

EDIT:

When does his current contract expire . Regardless how long there is to go we should have his contract extended by another 2 years at $800,000 a year..

Why would you give him an initial 5 year deal, and then only extend it for 2 years? It makes no sense. (Am I wrong in saying that his intial contract was only for 4 years? I honestly can't remember.
