I asked this a while back people said round 10 but that hasn't happened. Whats the update on when Gardiner is going to play for Saints?

I'm very interested in seeing how that experiment pans out.

He will play for Casey this w/e, hopefully in the seniors Round 14. I just hope we dont cut him next year, if he can get fit and play 14 - 18 games a year he will be invaluable for us.

Really dissapointed that this bloke hasn't been able to get on the park. Has the ability to be a good player and has shown that in the past. St.Kilda's recruited poorly this season with Clarke who has been injured and Gardiner hasn't played any games

guaranteed he gets another year. my guarantee is that i reccon so :). but yeah i would be incredibly supprised if we didnt give him a fair go with his potential.

I beg to differ. Clarke was pick 9 in the Pre season draft, known in inner circles as the waste draft(recycled players), 100K wages and a great teacher to Van Rheenan, who by the way WILL be a player. Gardiner is costing 80K and is an investment for next year and beyond.
Jones has been a plus, as has Attard, both in our best 22, name any other club who has 2 rookies from last years Rookie draft now cemented in their best 22?

Gardiner is still only 27. So IF we can get him 100% recovered/healthy/fit then he could be a massive asset for us for probably 4-5 seasons.

Its crucial that we get his recovery right and ease him back into the seniors (via at least 2-3 games with Scorpions).

I agree that both C.Jones (earlier in the year) and Attard have been handy pick-ups. But the fact that theyre in our best 22 - does that say more about them or more about how weak our depth is?

Its hard to judge Jones...still only played a handful of games.

It sounds like he won't play in the VFL until next weekend.

I wouldn't bother about giving him too many weeks at the Scorpions. Once he's played a game or two lets just get him straight into the seniors and get a look at him. I agreed with the decision to recruit him and even though things haven't turned out yet he's definitely worth persisting with.

BrianSpeaking,

It's a bit early to say that Van Rheenan will be a great player but he's done well so far and he'll get a good apprenticeship in the VFL.

Sorry to disappoint you guys but Gardiner is a loser and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesnt even want to play footy again, and is enjoying getting his salary for doing absolutely nothing. I'm surprised he has stayed under the radar for so long considering all the stupid sh#$% he used to pull over here in the West. But I would have loved to see him come up against his old team and cop a beating, he sure deserves it.

Can anyone tell me why the Saints seem to like the West Coast rejects?

Zolloz, I do believe Michael and his Family are very very well off. He doesn't need the money. He is soley playing for the love of the Sport.

I can't wait to see him Play and Dominate.

Even if his parents are well off what makes you think they would support his sorry ass? And Gardy I loved when he was over here but he really let down his club and the community after he had been given a second chance. Two years out of AFL is a long time, things have changed since Gardiner last played I'm not sure whether he would be willing to put in the effort that is required of AFL players these days or if he could handle the workload. Lets not forget what he and Cousins used to get up to in the West. Those 2 peas are from the same pod. Sorry for getting off topic.

Gardiner
Value: Former AA ruckman. Highly skilled player who should be in the prime of his career.
Price: Downgraded third round pick to fourth round. Minimum wage.

We also have Gehrig, who has had a few top 3 B&F finishes and 2 Coleman Medals with us. Any other West Coast rejects you can name?
