Great to see the world's best bowler amongst the wickets again. He can't help it if he gets them against Bangladesh, he can only take wickets against the teams he gets to play against. Sri Lanka would kill for 5 Test Match series against England, West Indies, South Africa, etc, all things that Warne has been fortunate enough to have. All the bullshyte about his action is just that, bullshyte. He's been declared legal on every delivery and is within the laws of the game. That old chestnut should now be put to bed.

idiots.

common sense tells anyone Lara is more gifted then Hayden.

but like Murali, Haydos could only make runs his put up against, so no one can have a dig at any of the aussies averages being generous, if you say its not an issue judging Murali.

while stats are interesting viewing people should make there own mind up deciding on whos better a guy with an average of 50 or the guy with 53.3.

Murali is a chucker, they have been very generous of how much your allowed to bend your elbow , 50 years ago he would of been banned.

Just a question:

Are you better if you stand out in a great team or if you stand out in a bad one?

Its a good question. I would say in many sports that it is is the best players who stand out in a great side - Pele in 1970 Brazil side, par example, but cricket seems to be a bit different.

The cream always rises.

i dont think it matters in cricket cause you bowl and bat to the opposition, not kick to your team mates (if you know what i mean), some players in Football have to relie on the team doing well, as in cricket its more individualized.

Lara might be more gifted, but that doesnt make him better. Yze might be more gifted than Archer but not many people would say hes the better player.

I would say a player who stands out in a ******** team. In a good team the pressure is always on the opposition from all angles. In a ******** team good players can be targeted and taken out of the game with no concern for the rest of his team
I see what your saying, but in a team of 11 great players, to really stand out, you have to be at a pretty high level.

eddiesmith said:
But if you look at the Australian team over the last few years, who stands out? No one really
Thats a good thing, everyone stood up at different times, showing there are(or were) a truly great even team. That is why I dont think England will ever get to the level Australia are(or were) because Flintoff is so easily your best player who does everything for you.

I think more pertinently, the two great bowlers have stood out and with their assistance, they have made a lot of top players look like great players - Hayden, Martyn are two classic examples or very high quality cricketers who look like immense cricketers.

I dont think you can argue Hayden isnt an Immense cricketer and has been probably our best batsman of the last 6-7 years easily and was once so easily the best batsman in the world ahead of the likes of Lara and Tendulkar who would come under the categorie of great cricketers.

No, the English team throughout the Ashes all stood up at different times. Yes Flintoff is our best, but the rest are so even that each innings only a couple stepped up yet we were able to put on good scores.

I reckon we will be a very good side because we have great consistency throughout our lineup. We can afford to carry a batsman or 2 and a bowler or 2 through form slumps

Will we get to the level of the Aussies? Who knows, it depends if the rest of the world start improving as well or if we meet the rest of the world at the same ******** standard they have been the last few years. Even India isnt that much of a threat atm

Indias a strange one, definetly not a threat to you guys, yet you think in a country of 1 billion cricket crazy people, you could find 11 great cricketers.

i think the 3 for most recognised by opposition are Mcgrath, Warne and Gilchrist.

Mcgrath and Warne will probaly reach Legend status at the end of there careers.

Gillie is probaly the most entertaining batsman.

Ponting will probaly suffer in Taylor and Waughs shadow.

semantics really - all about definition of the word.

Look (a true Australianism!!! that seems to get into every interview), I have been a massive admirer/fan of Aus. cricks for a long time now and I can defo. say that Hayden is a stunningly good player - I would have to say that Waugh and Ponting have been better over the last 6-7 years - but Hayden is a real confidence, get up the pitch and lamp it straight back past the bowler type player, who thrives on confidence and making the oppo. pay dearly. He isn't the sort that would react well to tight situs. and I daresay his record will say that. Ponting, Waugh would dig in, which makes them great players whereas Hayden is a big bastard who gets in ya face.

He certainly isn't your best player for the last 6/7 years.

You dont think Warney and McGrath are at Legend status atm, I think Warney definetly is, has there ever been a more popular cricketer world over?

Fair point you make, but if you think the one time Australia have been toppled in the last 7 years(bar now) is the India series in 2001 when Hayden was Australias player of the series under immense pressure and he proved he can still be a great player with his 130 odd in the fifth test.

Disagree with the Ponting call except for the dig in the 3rd test (or was it 4th) where he made 150+.

Too often he wilts under the pressure and he gets most of his runs when there is little pressure on. I am not doubting that he is a class batsmen I just don't believe he comes close to Waugh when he had that steely determination.

I accept that he was brilliant in India and he did play very well at the Oval. It was a tough pitch to get in on initially, but he played superbly well. I just can't put him in the same class as Punter, Waugh and possibly Gilchrist. It is a tough one and he was the leading player on the planet (stats-wise) following that tour. I just can't see him having got as many runs over the years in a weaker team, whereas Punter and Waugh would have got runs anywhere.

Andy Flower - great example of a brilliant, brilliant player that would have walked into any side in the world, and came out of test cricks with an average of over fifty in the world's worst side...(pre-Banglas)

dont know if Warnes popular as a bloke but he has the respect of all the cricket world.

Mcgrath will be remebered as a Legend,

funny how this series the aussies were clapping and congradulating the English when they made runs, watching the Windies series from 10 years ago that Aussie side was full of Mungrel and it was good to watch.where the team now uses a certain arrogance to intimatate the opposition.
