I was nearly certain that he would play this week.
He has played the last three weeks in the reserves and coming up against the toughest team in the competition on their home turf after coming off two losses of an average of 100 points each, Bailey needed to make a lot of changes.
He did do this, but he didnt bring in Whelan.

With Bate, Davey and even guys like Petterd not in the team, i do not know if Wheels can get his spot back???

I tohught he would've been in the side by now so i do find it a bit odd.

I agree, unless he is way under done fitness wise then he should be playing.

Does anyone know what his from has been like with Sandy?

Exactly.
All signs say he should be playing.
i think Bailey is going to clean out the side and start fresh.
M.Whelans career is nearly over going by this.

Wash your mouth out - Wheels has a spot any time - he's a through and through champ :thumbsu:

Even if Bailey is going to clean out the side and start fresh he wouldnt be doing it in round 3, he must be underdone because of an interupted preseason.

He will be quite a way behind in terms of fitness due to his interrupted pre-season. Pre-season is where players form their fitness base for the season, whereas during the season the focus needs to be more on gamelan, recovery and specific areas where improvment is required. He will have a fair bit of catching up to do in relation to his fitness and match readiness.
To sum up, its only round 3, I wouldn't start worrying about his future just yet.

If every player on Melbournes list played with the intensity of Whelan we'd climbing all over premierships. Surely he'd be one of the first picked still?, must be underdone.., i rate him not far behind J-Mac.

I don't think it is that far-fetched that Bailey doesn't rate Wheels.
MFC supporters rate him, but most other clubs wouldn't know who he is. I think he's a very good back pocket but injuries have cruelled what otherwise could have been a very good career, and Bailey may want him gone at the end of the year.

If he doesn't play for us in the next month I'd say Bailey doesn't rate him.

neitz will retire and yze, holland, warnock and jamar will all either retire or be delisted

Weetra, Bode, C.Johnson and even Wheatley will all be lucky to keep there spots on the lists as well

Dont think Whelan will be delisted as well, he is a best small backmen along with Bartram

Bailey obviously doesn't feel he is match fit after so many abck to back injuries they are being cautious with him. Remember Bailey has made a strong point of "We will not play players unless they are 100% fit"

According to Demonland he was was sandringhams best player and should be back in the red and blue next week.

Heres hoping :)

I'm fairly sure they would just be taking their time with him because of his history with injuries.

Reckon you'd be right. Matty hasn't had as many injuries as you'd think over the trip but when he does get one, he seems to be a terribly slow healer. He missed two finals campaigns because of what seemed fairly innocuous injuries that he couldn't shake off. I guess the match committee would rightly want to be sure he is as free as possible from a potentail recurrence. With Wheels, a two-week calf strain tends to go to six weeks on the sidelines.

Was 2nd best on for Sandy, i assume his lengthy spell at Sandy is to improve his fitness he sould be back in the next 2 weeks.
