Just heard that Macaffer is to undergo further (minor) knee surgery that will delay his return by 3-4 weeks.

unfortunately for Caff he got injured at the wrong time.

Crisp and Adams have both cemented their spots in the middle, Crisp can play a negating role while still offering some offensive drive.

Unless he returns as a high half forward and he better hope Alex Fasolo doesn't find form, i can't see him playing another senior game for us unless we are ravaged by injuries.

lol. When did you last see us not ravaged by injuries? :p

A cyst grew on the ACL, according to Buckley. So arthroscopic surgery is on the cards.

Shithouse for the bloke.

Be very interesting to see where Caff fits in when he comes back, the clubs love him and the players do too. But with Crisp coming on well as a run with player and actually able to win his ball. With Sidebottom and Greenwood to come back both who can play run with roles, in particular greenwood whos exceptional at winning his own ball. Quite simply, I don't see a spot for him in the midfield, nor do I want to see a bloke purely in the midfield to stop someone else getting the pill.

Gotta go back to being a forward or nothing I guess.

Caff easily gets a spot in our side. He was the best shut down player in the league before he did his knee.
Negative shut down players are becoming a complete thing of the past. When hes in the centre bounce its pretty much 3 on 2 at ground level. All you have to do is look at Fremantle without Crowley this year, their midfield looks as potent as its ever been and largely due to the fact they don't have a player like Crowley running around in their brigade. Unless you have a player capable of getting 20-25+ and can do a completely defensive role ala Cameron Ling or Kane Cornes, theres no longer a place for it.

Caff doesn't impact centre bounces, clearances or hit the scoreboard, for a player whos running around close to the ball at all times, hes playing as a midfielder who averages 14 touches. Not good enough.

He averaged more touches and more tackles per game in our premiership year playing as a full time forward.

Ok our injury problems are so crazy that I thought it needs its own anthem

Sing to the tune of the Australian National Anthem

Magpie fans let us lament
The injured Young and Reid
With hamstring strains and aches and pains
Their return is hard to see
Mccaffers knee and Shazzas foot
And Mooreys Hamstring tear
Our injury page, at any stage
Has a break a strain and a tear
Our injury page, at any stage
Has a break a strain and a tear

Spot on.

Would have been useful on Crotchin on Sunday, but overall think we've thrived better having three ball winners around the ruck - and should continue to do but maybe even moreso, as Grundy develops further.

Perhaps horses for courses for a very occasional guest shutdown role appearance, but likely he needs to develop his game in another area eg third forward, though not sure he has the tools for that. Crisp has him well covered you'd think.

Club and players do love him from all you hear, so hope something works out in his favour.

Took the words out of my mouth. Can't see him in best 22. Love the bloke but just can't see it.

Tell me the last time we had a full list to choose from. A senior list needs to bat deep and competition for spots is a healthy outcome.
If in any doubt refer to the Cliff Clavin buffalo theory.

Good point we will never have a full list again not how the games played now

2010 was the last time we had a full list I think.

I don't remember if we had a player out for the 2010 season (Presti missing the granny doesn't count) I could be wrong?

Ross Lyon said the same of Freo in that Crowley being out has made them more attacking. They now have Neale in the centre and he's ripping it to shreds.
