Massively disapointing after all that Macbook air is exactly the same (Almost).

I think I'll just bite the bullet and get the 15in high res non glossy i5 and be done with it. When you include the ability to claim the GST when I go travelling, it's the same price as buying it in the states.

You dont get the GST back if the product is over $1,000.

Or more correctly, you do get the GST back when you leave but then you get charged the amount again when you return. Not only that, you get charged duty for any other goods you get (booze) because you are over the $1,000 threshold.

You could hide it and act like you took it over when you come back (fraud) but I've heard rumours of customs being onto that recently. You need to make sure you have all documentation (ie receipt) regarding the laptop not with you.

Perhaps we'll make this the official MaBook Pro thread.

I got one (13") a couple of months ago and I love it. The design, the ease of use, the sturdy casing.

My only issue is that it is not a stable OS. If you leave it running for too long it just locks up. A friend who has the previous model has exactly the same problem.

i'm quite suprised you're experience that kind of issue... i find the OS ridiculously stable.. i reboot probably once a month, and thats usually forced due to a reboot etc...

in the 2 years ive had it i've had 2 software related issues. once i had a dodgy firefox plugin and could never start firefox.. it would pretty much make the computer unresponsive.. removing the plugin fixed that..

another time i had an issue with itunes freezing every time i tried to update podcasts.. found an online solution to remove a few files, uninstall/reinstall and all was back to normality.

pretty good track record in 2 years if you ask me.

as for your issue, you'll prboably find you have a rogue app running in the background or something that'll be causing your grief. have a look at system preferences > accounts > login items and try take out a few that u dont need.. speeds up startup and you might fix the issue..

Really? I bought one of the new 13" MBP I5s around 6 weeks ago and not once has it locked. Needless to say is the longest I have gone by a country mile without my laptop or desktop locking or crashing on me. Got it for $1119 for Woolies employees from DSE. Expensive compared to other laptops but still very happy with it. Did not do any too hardcore with windows that created compatibility problems as yet.

I've had my iMac 20" since 2006 and it still runs like brand new, i have spent on it though: $60 on new HD, $120 to upgrade from tiger to snow leopard and $200 on a new internal power supply (broke 6 months ago).

Never have i ever had a problem with the O/S and it hasn't slowed down one bit since the day i got it. They are very reliable computers and unless apple have a signficant downfall over the coming years i will never buy anything else.

Oh and OSX Lion will only be $30 to upgrade, so i will most likely be doing that as well.

Advice to those running OS X. Mac OS X Lion will be available through the App Store, so get some discount iTunes cards. Myer and Target have 2 x $20 for $30 right now.
