I was ready to pre-order Madden 12, but the other night I put in Madden 10 (given to me by a mate) and didn't even start a game. Now leaning towards saving my $60 and getting NHL 12 instead.
So after not playing it you decided it was no good?

The Madden franchise hasn't deserved all the sales/money it gets this whole "next-gen". Only reason people buy it is because there's no other games being made to compete with it, and the license.

2K Sports always made the best sim games, innovated, and are still technically superior to Madden tho 7 years old now. APF lacked support, 2K stopped making football games. Backbreaker has truly pushed the next-gen envelope, is more fun to play, but lacking options/depth and on-going support. Blitz the League 2 and NFL Street 1/2 are the best other football games, both more replayability than Madden.

Off topic: I'm getting the NCAA college football game for PS3 just wondering if its region free?? I've read it is region free on the EA forums but some of the replies were sketchy at best.

On topic: Also got this on pre-order looking forward to the be a pro aspect as I've only played the Fifa one.

The only time advisable to buy PAL PS3 games is if they have downloadable map packs, like FPSers. Because they are often region-based off the disc you own. BLUS (ntsc) or BLEU (pal) code on your disc.

Also buying an NTSC game doesn't mean youre restricted to playing on non-Aussie servers etc.

I don't claim to be a doyan of NFL game knowledge, but I doubt Blitz the League has the playability and replayability beyond that of Madden tbh.

I got Blitz the League 2 a while back when it was $10 on PlayAsia. Really, it doesn't have the same magic as the old NFL Blitz games...which is in no way due to the NFL licensing imo.

I couldn't give a rats about the NFL license as I don't really follow the sport at all.

But there's something a miss with Blitz the League. Dunno if it's the cheap AI or just that there doesn't seem to be as much fidelity with the movement, throwing and overall gameplay as there used to be.

But it was a bit disappointing. That said, I only played the one game which froze up on me as soon as I got a trophy (not too far from the end of the match - was 'return to sender' fwiw). Haven't gone back to it as of yet.

There's a ton of youtube videos of Blitz the League 2, worth watching to see where the replayability factor is.

The game itself in motion isn't completely smooth and life-like, but Madden hasn't been anywhere near that either since '05. Some games are just more fun to play tho a bit arcadey, like BtL2, BB, NFL Street. Attempted simulation games like NFL 2K and Madden, among many others in the past, require a lot more work and polish and depth, very high standards need to be met otherwise sim gamers end up frustrated with the product. Which has been the bug-bear of Madden since they got the NFL license.

Anyone downloaded and played ps3 demo yet? Downloading while at work today..apparently features Greenbay v Chicago 5 min quarters and 4 difficulty levels...can't wait to check it out.

Yeah I have. IMO:

*Better Graphics
*Better motion and play is more fluid.
*Improved camera angles, post TD atmosphere.
*Better GP screen layout.
*Feels more like the real thing (comparable to what NBA2K11 is for basketball)

But, none of these things will mkae it worth while if the rest of the game stays pretty much the same (like the last however many )

Yeah sounds somewhat promising... If the new additions to franchise mode turn out to be as good as they are saying (free agent bidding, dynamic player ratings, expanded rosters and "cut days", ability to change teams and edit players among others I'll be happy...I barely played madden 11 as I got it for xbox a few weeks before I traded the lot for a ps3 so I'm eager to get a massive Madden fix in a few weeks.

The grass add's a surprisingly decent amount of realism to the game (dl'd the demo a few days ago-took long enough!)
The graphics are better, presentation is better, but my favourite, i think the biggest improvement game-play and visual-wise is the tackling. The tackles and hits look and sound AWESOME and gives you the ability to actually fight for extra yards in a tackle rather than be brought down on a pre-determined path.

The cut scene to the sidles is a nice addition too. Overall, a much bigger step from 10-11. can't wait to play it for real

Yeah I thought the grass was great. Much improved from last years grass that's for sure. Have to give them credit because that would've been one of the hardest things to implement and they really nailed it.

Haven't ran many play action passes yet but even though I pass the ball on almost every play I'm actually able to throw the ball without getting sacked after I fake the hand off unlike previous versions.

Grass is an exceptional improvement. Couldn't agree more.

The gameplay including play action passes has improved, can't wait to get hold of this full version.

After mixed feelings with Madden 11 (which i returned to after giving Madden 10 a miss), i am super excited with Madden 12. Like i said back in May, kinda have a love/hate relationship with the franchise. From what i have read about it as well as impressions of the demo i should enjoy it. I probably won't play it as much as Madden 04 (as i keep saying, it is my most played Madden game ever! well other than 93), but golly gosh... i can't wait.

The achievements/trophies list looks like a winning combination as well :D.

I purchased the Asian version of Madden 11 (360) last year (was only $45, compared to the $89 price @ JB Hifi and Game/EB's standard $99.95). Reading play-asia, i may have to opt for the ps3 version this year in order to ensure the cheaper option is region free.

There's a guy who i was helping with his ratings. His site developer is a friend of John Madden's daughter (who owns the rites to the Madden name), and he recently just had a job interview with Josh Looman and Donny Moore, to join EA to do M13 ratings.

He said recently that 1) EA have changed the formula for how the overall ratings work, and 2) that there's PR pressure from within EA's suits all the time to ensure high profile players have better ratings than real life. This guy uses Combine and pro-day results, as well as 'game speed' film analysis, to get accurate figures for players physical attributes in speed, acceleration, jumping, strength, agility. PR pressure involves bumping up their OVR, or when they start performing well in the NFL, jacking their speed up so they are 'stars' in Madden.

Recent example...

Peyton Hillis:
Madden 09.......76 speed, 62 acceleration.
Madden 12.......87 speed, 91 acceleration.

What is the Australian release date for the game. It's released to the US on the 30th of August, so does that mean we are getting here on Wednesday the 31st?
JB & EB sites say the 1st of September?

Has anyone heard whether the street date has been broken yet?

The release date her is September 1st, but a guy at work told me that it was already for sale. I live ~25 mins from the nearest place that would sell it and I don't want to drive down there if it's not on sale.

Did the guy @ work happen to tell you where he saw it on sale?

Have you rung your nearest store?

Called EB, they are not selling it yet.

The guy at work said he'd heard it was on sale, sorry.

I guess i'll wait until Thursday, probably better that I get it after payday anyway :D

I bought Madden 09 for $15 at Kmart a week ago to tide me over. I did have Madden 10 but traded it in when AFL live came out.

Looking forward to the improved Franchise mode big time. All I do in these games is either fantasy draft a franchise mode, or make a team full of my mates.

Geez, just wait till it releases Sep 1st. No need to rush out and buy, in a few weeks you'll hate it.
Plus, by waiting a little, you'll get better in-store prices thru competition.

It's going to be the greatest game in history.
