FYI guys: 5th quarter reporting that

1)McCaffer (sp?) injured his knee today. footage did not look good, club stating that he only hyper-extended it, looked a little bit jarrod waite -ish

2) confirmed that Rusling injured his groin. seriousness unknown.

Macaffers looked terrible. However the docs said there was no structual damage and he actually came back on and played the rest of the game. rusling seems to have injured his groin and is out for a couple of weeks.

If Rusling can't get a game this season, we seriously have to beg the tough question at season's end.

What's his body made out of? Matchsticks?

we should get rid of rusling he cant put a couple of games together with out getting injured if he gets injured again after he gets over his groin his finshed him and roccer can go bring in dawess

Gavin Brown hit the nail on the head when he said Rusling looked a little tentative out there yesterday.

As kids, one of the 1st things you are taught is that you are more likely to get hurt if you go into contests half hearted then you are when you throw your body in and go for the ball.

Rusling should not even be considered for a VFL game again until he can show at training that he is willing to "go the ball" with the intensity required to survive in the game.

Rsling has had a propensity to go in a little too hard in the past, but at the moment he is more of a danger to himself and others then he should be, and thus should have to prove himself before playing at any level again.

Calls for rusling to be delisted are pretty pointless. With the lack of draft picks coming up we might as well stick with him. We know he can play but other clubs wouldn't offer any thing for him so we'll loose a good player for nothing which wiill bite us on the ass.

there are quite a few to go before we hit him too

cook
stanley
rocca retire possibly
bryan possible
ben johnson possible
then rus

In relation to Macaffer, I did look really bad, but I remember seeing a very similar incident with Luke Ball and he also came through unscathed. He possible had a small tear but ACLs' can have partial tears as long as it is not greater then about 40%.

Well so my doctor said, I've had one.

From what I've heard, he played on a HBF which, with sustained performances in that role, could move him ahead of both Cox and Toovey with his good skills and accountability.

I really hoped Stanley would come through but it is looking more an more likely he is on the outer.

I agree with the top 4, but keep Johnno as a tagger. Depending on how many, if any, rookies to promote, 4 picks may be right.

Stanley was shocking yesterday, in conditions that should have suited him perfectly.

If fringe players like Stanley, Cook, Corrie and Bryan can't dominate at VFL level then I think there is very little upside to them.

IMO, we are much better off spending time with the likes of Francis, Reed, Blair, Keefe, etc

Agree with many people's thoughts in here that delisting Rus is a terrible idea.

The upcoming drafts are going to be very thin with the introduction of GC17.

Also, we have seen what Rus is capable of once he can get on the park. Problem is keeping him on the park.

With Rocca most likely going to retire at season's end, ditto Presti (perhaps), we will be a little thin in terms of key position players and they generally take longer to develop too. It would be a waste of time and development to let him go now.

These minor injuries (cheekbone/groin) are not too serious. He is still underdone in terms of fitness, conditioning, match fitness and touch which is why he is still suspect to these little niggling injuries.

Just keep getting as much minutes into him as we can via the VFL and try to get him up for perhaps the last 2-4 weeks of the season leading into the finals, provided we get there. If he can't get there, it isn't all doom and gloom. We should then just put the focus on getting him ready for pre-season so he can have a full go at it and get his body right.

He is still a very young player. He is not middle of the road or at the cross-roads so to speak.

We need to remain patient with him.

Pretty much agreed. We may as well persist with Corrie for another year or so (I've said before he'll either be the last man delisted or the last man retained) but theres no upside in holding on to the other three.

Great sensationalist reporting by the wanna be hack reporter in Darcy. State that the doctors said there was no structural damage, then follow it up by saying "jeez, I don't know about that, it doesn't look good". Let's not make any mention of the fact that he came back on and played the game out. Look out Hutchy, there's a new kid on the block.

i only saw the first half yesterday (admittedly on tele), but i thought caff looked a head and shoulders above the rest....great signs. loving his half back role too...

big call but he looked a little goddard-ish...

God forbid the host of a show should have an opinion, especially when it is one that mimics that exact thoughts of everyone who saw it.

Chances are Darcy didn't even watch that game due to other commitments (and why would he, it is only a VFL game) and certainly by only watching the footage they had on the show it would be safe to assume Caff was gone. I'm assuming the hosts didn't pass on the detail about him coming back on and if I had only seen the incident, then him getting carried off virtually, I did and would think he was goneski.

On topic, I agree with the logical consensus of the last few posters. We have a few players I would give the flick to before Rusling and it is hardly a desperate priority for us to free up his spot, we've put the time into him and clearly think he is worth backing in so I see no harm in holding him (he would be on a pittance too, so it isn't as if we a losing a huge amount).
Can he be delisted and rookied though? I would have thought that might be on the cards.

I reckon Bryan might be retained as well. Wood isn't demanding a spot still and Brown is to inconsistent to be relied on, I think he'll be held onto as safety.
Ben Johnson to go, Barham/Toovey have more upside in the tagger/shut down role, BJ has run his course.

I definitely agree with those saying that we should endeavour with Rusling. Just watched the flashback to the prelim final of 07 on TV and recalled how well he played in that finals series. Took a beaut mark in that last quarter as well, just looks so strong and fast when at his best. Watching that match, I realised how much I miss seeing guys like Bucks, Burns and Clement and Wakes running around for us. Watching Bucks sit out the dying minutes of the match was pretty saddening. Can't say I will miss Guy Richards, however, who was absolutely appalling that match.

Back onto Rusling, I think there's still hope for him playing this year, the injury he sustained this week will hopefully just keep him out for a couple of weeks and I just pray that he can get himself together for some AFL matches at some point this year.

In any case, he would be a fair way down the list in terms of who will be gotten rid of at the end of the year. There will also very limited opportunity in terms of picking up talent in the upcoming years due to the expansion team(s).

I’m with Timmy & Chase. Let’s not overplay Rusling’s upside though. He has always looked to have limitations in his game. He should get another year because as Timmy said we don’t have many real injury concerns. Rocca is the only other one and I’d give him anther year as well. There are enough players on the list who aren’t up to it to create the list spots we need.
