I have just received information regarding Jamie Elliott's ''injury''.

The good news is that his back is completely fine. He is not physically injured.

There is bad news, however. As I told you earlier in the week, Elliott was upset at the way he was treated in the Hawthorn game when Rocca demonstratively had a go at him for flying when he shouldn't have when he was on the bench in front of others. Jamie took exception to this and was very upset. He was also upset that Buckley had a go at him post game, albeit Buckley did it in a more measured way.

In response to this, Jamie has been sulking for a couple of weeks. It became such an issue for him that he went to the club and told them he is requesting a trade for next year. In response, the club has told him to take some time off to get his head right and that they have no intention of trading him.

Elliott most likely won't play next week but the club is confident this can be resolved.

I kinda suspected this. If this is true then we should consider trading him imo. For example we could do a straight swap for him for someone like Treloar or Motlop. Can't have this kind of diva attitude in a team. An AFL player who sulks and requests a trade because coaches rightly give him a rocket for not performing to instructions and standard is useless and needs to be moved on.

Further information is that the problem goes deeper than the Rocca incident. Jamie has been struggling for a while with being the face of the club for the kids and with a few other little issues at the club. One in particular was he did an interview with Collingwood where he requested that they don't ask about his dad, but the club still asked about him.

Jamie isn't in a great place and needs to clear his head.

No-one is comfortable with being challenged. Ask any loud-mouth on this board in the game-day thread if they have any substance to their feelings about player X or Y and they'll most likely bark back rather than thoughtfully consider it.

If the above is true, it's simply Jamie's ego being pricked. I'm not blaming him, he is responding like any human being would.

But big picture stuff needs to be considered:-

- He's on good coin, he's highly valued and a key position player in a team on the rise
- He's been chosen to be the 'face' because he's a good-looking rooster and not considered a 'bad boy'
- The Club has every right to ask its players to contribute over and above the 'on-the-field' stuff as part of their contracts
- You only get to be an on-field star because your coaches and your team-mates allow it

Simply no other option for Jamie than to take a deep breath, let it all go and just get back to living in the moment and forgetting all the negativity that's come before. The biggest challenge you can face and overcome is the ability to give and receive criticism and not let it stew. Take a leaf out of Swannie's book.

Good luck Number 5, you need to wear that jersey with the attitude that is required of it.

If true, sounds like the young man could do with a whole lotta TLC rather than a berration and maybe this will need some Bucks "father figure" help rather than coaching. Take this very seriously Pies, he's not just a footballer and it sounds like he needs our help.

You've been right about everything so far so this is concerning (cant help but wonder who your source is). Its easy to forget sometimes how young these guys are and how much pressure they're under, so its not altogether surprising if they lose the plot from time to time. If it went down how you say it did then telling him to take time out and figure out whats important to him is probably a good move. Hel come around

I'd believe it.

If true ...

Dear Anthony Rocca,

It's not a smart idea to respond to mindlessly situations as you see them. Think (1) What outcome do I want to create? (answer: Elliott playing more like a small forward rather than a tall forward) then (2) What action needs to happen to bring about that outcome? (answer: Dunno, but pretty sure that berating a player in front of their team-mates gameday isn't the correct answer)

Dear Jamie Elliott,

We all love you mate. We love your hangers, but if the team thing to do is to stay down, then that's what you need to do. Take off as much time as you need, but can't wait to see you back :thumbsu:

Well if its true and he's not injured, then toughen up and if l was the club l will be telling him he has to play next week, and if he refuses, then its VFL for the remainder of the year, and goodbye at season's end. Can't have pre madonnas at the club, hence why we got rid of the negative energies at the club, the last few years.

Pffft,

If, and it's a big IF he's taken such offence to this berating, he needs to have a long hard look at himself. Try soldiering, $600 per week in training and all the abuse you could ever desire!

My money's on him having a legitimate injury, which will affect his psychological health, which is very understandable.
