Hmm probably not, I'd let him train with us over pre-season but that's about it. We've got a few players who can actually play at his size and aren't just speculative. And on the speculative side we've got Blicavs anyway. Why isn't he getting a game at North? Plain rubbish or rubbish bloke? I know he's got his suspension or whatever but he hasn't played any senior footy so far.

I would go with Majac. His effort v Geelong in last years NAB cup saw me put him in my supercoach team as a speculative. I didn't realise then that there were team tensions that would interfere with his development. A move would be good for him too.

North would want a good one (pick or player). I would seriously think about the good pick.

Think that DAW would be closed..

come on.... you smiled you know you did... :p

Go Catters...

Article I read yesterday had us having a crack at Mark Jamar...

BOOM........TISH !!!

Unfortunately I gotta laugh about the guy that said "we got Vardy", "it's all so sad", we're cryin' out for a big guy and he says, we got Vardy???

If the recruiters carn't pick big guys, I say, Majak, come on down!

man...we really don't need another 29 year old on our list. He's probably only got a good 3 years left in him. Hope the club aren't interested in him personally.

Rather him than Majak, who hasn't shown anything more than a proclivity towards ill-discipline. We also have Simpson and West to fill in the big-man slots, so I don't think Wells and Co will be sweating too much about getting Majak into the fold.

I reckon we can do better.

The point with Jamar is he's an unrestricted free agent so we wouldn't have to give up anything.

Having said that I still wouldn't do it if Dawson can play out the year without any further injury issues.

As far as Majak, IIRC he's contracted at North for 2013 which means they've obviously guaranteed to elevate him at the end of the year, so I doubt he'd be available.

I'm loath to judge based on media reports. He's been pushed into the spotlight, whatever he does is judged and because of his family's refugee background, his conduct is overanalysed.

I would take him with either a rookie list or a late draft pick, no sweat whatsoever. Doesn't have to be chosen as a ruckman either.

wouldn't we be in a similar boat all over again when it comes to that 'bigger' ruck?

Jamar is the same height & weight as West.
Simpson didn't do much wrong in the VFL last year but he was always going to be 2nd behind Ottens.
West seems more than capable of holding his own for another 7-10 weeks with Stephenson slowly improving (hopefully).

Probably our only chance to win back2back flags rests with the health & fitness of Simpson.

West wouldn't really be affected by whether you got another ruck because he's positionally versatile, can play back or forward as well as ruck.

Dawson would be the one affected hence you would see how he is going at the end of the year and if he looks like stepping up, you wouldn't bother getting another ruck.

I agree it will be crucial for the finals this year if he can get healthy and progress.

On Jamar, he plays bigger than he is because of the way he plays, very phsyical ruckman, good technical tap ruckman too.

Personally I'd prefer we didn't get another ruck although if a guy like Jamar leaves at 29 he's going for a premiership which means he's going to Collingwood or Hawthorn if not us (given Carlton don't need ruckmen) so given their ruck divisions are a weakness for them you'd have to consider whether you are prepared to let them have a free kick or whether you put your hand up. Depends as much as anything as whether the club sees us as likely to play finals next year or not.

Personally I just hope Dawson gets fit and progresses, West continues his sterling work, and that at some stage next year we see Vardy show signs that he will play again.

What exactly are you expecting from the 3 gamer?

If Jamar does want out of Melbourne at the end of the year and who wouldn't then I think the cats would be crazy not to have a go.
He was the 2010 all Australian ruckman in a pretty bad team even if he was up for 1 or 2 years it would further enhance our premiership chances.

As mentioned in the age article it would be similar to Jolly going to Collingwood, it worked for a year and the jury is out for Jolly this year and next.
But if it got us another flag then so what if he dropped off after that, Vardy, Simpson and West still need time to develop and one of them would play as the second ruck.
Really Orren would be the one set to lose the most, but I don't see a point in getting Daws he may become a good player but not at Geelong.
A lot depends on what happens this year both in where we finish and how our current rucks recover from injury and develop through the year.

we should aim higher and try and trade for Goldstein or Zach Clarke. Goldstein was an absolute gun playing the lone hand as a ruckmen last year, now he's playing second fiddle to Mcintosh (North are trying to have their cake and eat it too), he has looked lost and has just now been dropped. we should be looking at reverse-Mumfording one of these two. a decent amount of money and a confirmed no.1 ruck spot would surely tempt them away.

West looks like he'll be an ok no.2, Stephenson is a stop-gap with a limited shelf-life, Vardy looks better (and is needed more) as a forward and Simpson is highly speculative as an option to me. i'd love us just to be bold and go seize a known quantity.

McIntosh has been good, if anything Goldstein has been down.

Besides, the former will be 28 this year, only one year less than Jamar and would cost a lot more, and is contracted, as is the latter. Don't see a good trade in there. FA is probably the best way to go IF we need to bolster the rucks.
