I know I'm going to get shot down but feeling so despondent after yesterdays insipid display.

The thing that stood out was that, apart from Chris Judd, there was absolutely no leadership.

I must admit I was critical of Cornflakes Thomas revovling Captain policy but thinking now he may have had the right idea.

David Hookes seemed to make an inspired decision when promoting Cameron White to lead Victoria.

Now don't get me wrong - despite all the flogs on Big Footy, I think Chris Judd is one of the great leaders and his efforts yesterday to drag himself into the game were sensational.

Whether he's captain or not Juddy's going to play that way - he'll always lead !

Why not take the plunge and make Gibbs captain - it may be the making of him. I don't personally know Gibbs but he seems a mature, upstanding sort of guy.

May take some of the pressure off Juddy and fast-track the development of Gibbs.

Thoughts ??

Gibbs captain? Of Preston yeah?

Surely you jest.

Would make the honour of being captain irrelevant... a non-descript front-running footballer who would be unknown if he weren't a No.1 draft pick... and thinks it's his god-given right to play league football without the desperation required. Captain material? Not in a million years.

He will be a good captain in the future, but at the moment he is crusing in the seniors, he know he does not have to do anything to play every week and is threfore playing like that. I was at the game on Sunday and saw first hand how disgracefully he played, lazy, and just plain refuesed to do the hard work, stood around and waited for the cheap disposal, theyn hand pass it away as quickly as possible and stand still and watch.

Bryce Gibbs I think you are a star, but at the moment you are playing like a 10 year old lazy prick, very disappointing and as long as the coach continues to play him in the seniors he will not learn or improve.

Top post. He is a Nick Dal Santo clone. Content to cruise around and play selfish football, being rewarded as if he is owed a living by the club. It makes me sick. He has the work ethic of Byron Pickett's post-career.

WTF!

So we reward a lack of respect to our jumper with the way he's been playing.. by giving him the most respectful position of a player playing in that jumper.

FMD!

Two things could happen:

1. You appoint a squib yet talented and skillful player as captain and become a laughing stock.

2. It makes him pull his finger out and start playing like a man and living up to his potential like it did Shane Crawford.

Murphy is a more obvious leader than Gibbs at the moment. .. and Simpson has stepped up also. .. Bryce needs to pull his socks up forget his image and get dirty and earn the Captaincy, not get gifted it. ..

You can't have a guy who shirks the contest as your skipper I'm afraid, Gibbs needs to harden up and assert himself on contests, he's prob been the biggest disappointment in the last month, for a guy who has been talked up as a potential captain he has shown zero leadership and hasn't set a good example for the rest of the playing group

I'm still bewildered as to why people were wrapping him up for his performance against WCE, I mean he had a free pass to do whatever he wanted against one of the worst teams in the comps, he has been found out lately, needs to turn things around otherwise a spell in the 2s should not be overlooked, you could tell that Rats has been majorly disappointed at Gibbs' last month after watching On The Couch

He walked into the leadership group as a 17 year old.

Hasn't had to earnt a thing.

Where are the 6 goals he kicked in the SNAFL Granny when he was 16/17??

He is not working hard enough and barely deserves a spot in the side let alone captaincy.

I understand what your saying in that it may make him pull his finger out, but I haven't anything to suggest that he will rise to the occasion.

OK .. OK .. I get the point. Dumb idea !!

I just don't know where our leadership is going to come from unless we start 'manufacturing' it ??

i get the idea that it might inspire him to do better on the field, it probably would. true leadership doesn't need a little (c) to take initiative though... maybe we just don't have the players to do that. strangely enough the initiative that first comes to mind is waite when he got reported against PA.

Yeah, nah.

Captain is a title that people need to earn. After Judd, we start fresh, and we go back to making people earn their title, not just walk into it.

Gibbs can't even break open a game yet, why on earth should he be our captain? He's still fluffing around in the backline, getting soft possession, and for someone with amazing skill, he turns it over way too easily.

I have never seen the hype in Gibbs, and now he's showing that he is full of his own ego, like i thought he was.

Sam newman told him he was handsome, and now he's playing like a soft teddy bear.
