Predict when each one will retire. We can bring this up in a few years and see how close everyone was.

Mal - End of 2009
Lloyd - End of 2010
Lucas - End of 2011
Fletcher - End of 2011

mal will be the first, followed by daylight.. I think Loyld will be the last standing he hasnt played much over the last couple of years

2008 Mal
2009 Fletch
2011 Lucas
2012 Loyld

I wouldnt be surprised if Mal retired at the end of this year
Lloyd 2010
Lucas, Fletch 2011

Michael - 2009
Fletcher - 2008 (i feel he'll want to finish on top of his game, and will be confident with ryder having established himself and the quality of pears coming through)
Lloyd - 2011 (the last few years of missing games will enable him to play longer)
Lucas - 2010 (will spend his last two years tutoring Gumbleton before becoming our Forward coach)

2008 Mal

As Gordon Ramsay would say "F#^%#$ Me"

Who would take the big gorilla forwards or resting ruckmen?

Do you expect to play Pears or Daniher on those guys before they are ready?

The moment G-Train, Rocca, Richo leave the scene so will Mal's worth to the team if we continue to play hard running footy.. Fletch can take the real tall's, ryder the more solid type's and the rest of the defenders will just run, if the blues can win games with there defence:eek: then there is no such thing as a french pig

What about Brown, Roughead, Hawkins, Kosi, etc, etc.

Fletch plays as an attacking backmen and was AA last year. You want him to play a negating role only now?

You want Ryder the athletic type to take the solid types?

The Blues have won sweet fa over the past few years and will continue to do so.

Your logic is seriously flawed.

Mal - 09
Fletch - 09
Lloyd - 12
Lucas - 12

I hope Dustin and Mal don't retire both at the same time though. Idealy it would be nice if Mal and Fletch could retire a year or so apart so that he could spend some time down back alongside the young backman in Pears, Johns ect guiding and mentoring them so that become great players.

one by one starting at the end of 09

mal, fletch, lucas, lloyd

i reckon fletch will want to give it away at the end of next year, but the club won't want mal and fletch leaving at the same time so they will convince him to play

id say mal this year, fletch next year, then lucas and lloyd a couple of years after that

Mal this year - replaced next year at full back by Courtney Johns.
fletch 2011 - he could play for ages
Lucas 2012 - playing from full forward
Lloyd 2010 - injuries bring him down

Lucas and Lloyd didn't last as long as predicted.
It's funny though, every year you think "the year after this one will be Fletch's last".
I wanna be the first to say, I think he'll retire at the end of 2015.

Is it bad of me as an essendon fan that my first thought was who the %^&# is Mal?

Nah, it's perfectly legit.

There are a few imports from other clubs we've had that I'd legitimately like to forget.

Lloyd could of played longer obviously but good old Fletch is still going!

Lucas' career came to a shuddering halt within the space of about half a season IIRC. He lost all of his pace and he wasn't even that quick to begin with.

Still think Lloyd was good for another season and maybe even one after that. He was robbed of his chance to get his 1,000th goal
