Firstly let me say I am relieved that Nick Malceski was not hurt at all on Friday night. He was not injured or concussed in any way, at all. Except his foot in another incident.
There has been several incidents of swans players feigning that they have been Knocked out this season in innocuous bumps. Assuming the boxers position when the brain is shut down by a heavy blow and then miraculously getting straight back up. They must be a different species?
Oh no I am knocked out!!
They (Swans) have a tendency, like Malceski clearly did on Friday night to feign the knockout position you commonly see in boxing where the body stiffens, the chin lifts, the eyes roll back and the brain which has gone into spasm due to impacting the skull wall puts the body into a state of inanimation before rebooting the brain. Often the boxer will keep punching or his hands will come up to his face, as Malceski did on Friday night. This is the body attempting to carry out the message the brain had sent the moment prior to collision. The next planned move the person was intending. You often see players in AFL do this when they get knocked out just before attempting to handball when caught flush while in possession. Here's news for you Nick "the faker" Malceski you had just kicked the ball (about a 10th of a second before impact, the ball was still in shot) not caught in possesion or even handballed it so there is no latent brain message that would have the hands going up to the face as his clearly did on the tv. or any other post trauma movement.
Furthermore this generally last longer than the 1-2 seconds that Malceski faked it for. Thats why they have a count to ten not a count to three in boxing to ensure that the person is knocked out.
Also if you are knocked out to have caused the brain to have to reboot the body, well you have concussion and there is no way you would play out the game.
I am not for one second discounting franklin made contact but it was NOT a flush contact. The media has reported that the initial contact was to the shoulder and the head was secondary contact. I can tell you for a certainty is why Malceski was not knocked out and that he was faking it.
I have no doubt that Nick Malceski was attempting to have Franklin reported by feigning a more severe contact and all good refs and umps gauge their decision on visual indicators such as given by Malceski when making a decision.
DOES THE UMPIRE SEE ME BEING KNOCKED OUT?
Franklin has not hit malceski flush (iNITIAL CONTACT WAS SHOULDER TO SHOULDER)or left the ground therefore the MRP must adjudicate this as "negligent". That cannot be avoided its a fact. Many will argue that Malceski had disposed of the ball already and therefore he was "Reckless" however the ball is quite literally still in shot on most angles and the contact is 10ths or 100ths of a second after he disposes of the ball. This is NOT a late hit and to suggest otherwise is ludicrous.
The impact did not damage or hurt Malceski, he continued to play out the game and was not concussed. 3 minutes of the field is not time for a concussion test. FACT. MRp must grade this as "low impact". Thats unavoidable.
"High Contact" was still made however and that is a fact as well.
Therefore Buddy will be quite rightly given a one match ban which he can with his excellent record over the past two years have reduced with an early plea to points.
However dont be surprised if Buddy walks away totally.
OK sucked the umpire in, time to get up and go on playing.
The only other fact that needs to be considered in all this is the staging by the swans. This is becoming a blight on our game.
You didnt need to be a master lip reader to see franklin asking malceski after the game "What the F*ck was that all about"?
The game I grew up playing and watching anyone attempting to get someone reported and outed for finals earmarked you as a dog of a bloke. Thats not what this country is about and Sydney might want to change their ways.
PLayers from all clubs are leading with their heads and ducking. This has been caused by the rule changes and is making a mockery of fair play and good sportsmanship. Not to mention making more injuries likely not less as the rule changes have intended.
Players staging like they are playing soccer from all clubs is an issue for our game. The swans are the worst practitioners.
