The Collingwood Football Club wishes to clarify issues arising out of the quarter-time break during Friday night’s match against St Kilda.

An incident in which a number of St Kilda players came in close proximity to the Collingwood huddle caused an exchange between several players and club officials.

Senior coach Mick Malthouse went over to instruct his players to remove themselves from the incident, during which time there was an exchange of unnecessary comments by both Malthouse and Stephen Milne.

“It was only after the match that I reflected fully on the events and my actions at quarter time,” Malthouse said.

“I apologise to Stephen Milne for comments I made in the heat of the moment, which were wrong and I retract them. I accept that after 27 years as a coach I should know better than to respond to incidents like this.”

Due to the fact that Stephen Milne acknowledges his comments to Mick Malthouse were inappropriate, the Collingwood Football Club will not be taking action through the AFL regarding his conduct and will be making no further comment on the matter.

Any chance there will be a late change this weekend?

In - Buckley
Out - Malthouse

Players Union will go for Malthouses scalp on this one.......and we all know how politically correct the AFL are.....like politicians they always want to appear to be doing something.

Who cares he will get some crappy $5000-$10,000 fine for bringing the game into disripute like Clarkson did last year.
All this media build-up for something which will, if found to be true will will basically go unpunished.

So Milne instigates the whole affair by calling Licca's sexuality into question and then barks whatever at our coach who forgets to take the high road and descends into the gutter with that poison little dwarf and we're painted at the bad guys. A bit rich if you ask me, if you dish it out (And in Milne's case more than his fair share) then you should be prepared to take it in whatever form it might take.

I didn't think I could despise Milne anymore than I already do, I was wrong.

Its really starting to irk me how people wants Bucks in charge now! These kinds of statements are made with complete ignorance about how good a coach Mick is and how underprepared Buckley would be at senior level.

Mick is a master, he has got us into the finals for the past 4 years with a mediocre list (no ruckmen) and he is arguably the best developer of young kids in the land. The longer he is at the helm, the better.

Also, I wonder if Licca went on with his comments to Milne about 'finishing this off in the car park'. Would love to see that, Milne would get ruined!!

Pathetic.

I don't care if he lied, whatever, but to know go back and admit he lied. Pathetic and stupid.

Also, not even sure why someone has to apologise for saying somethinf factual, stupid world we live in.

It's like if i went to a Richmond supporter and said 'your team is shit'. Would i then have to apologise for saying something true?

Anyway i am over Mick and his bullshit, time for Eddie to pull his head out of his arse and get some fresh blood pumping.

Milne is one the game's biggest sledgers and obviously one of the biggest sooks as well. people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. he didn't like it when he had a little taste of his own medicine... Milne was an accused rapist, so why is Malthouse in trouble for calling it as it is!? it shouldn't even be an issue.

Milne should have then been sacked from the game in the same way lovett was. there seemed to be little difference in circumstances to me.

The only way that the little rat milne gets any tail, is when he forces it to happen. That Mick responded to the prick is good. The AFL should leave this alone as it's been solved by the parties involved. What good will imposing a fine do? It didn't stop Mick from doing it after Clarkson was fined last time.

I don't care what anyone says, my respect for Mick went up immensely after that incident. Just shows how much he cares for the players, if they take shit he sticks up for them, side by side as it should be.

Hey there. I feel it's worth mentioning that Milne is the most sledged player in the AFL by a long way. The notion that he "can't take it" is absurd. He's been taking it for six years nonstop from fans and players and has never complained. Rightly or wrongly, he and the Saints thought that copping it from a 50-something veteran premiership coach was a bridge too far.

Yep, same here. I don't give a shit what the media, or opposition trolls think; I thought it was great!:thumbsu:

Doesnt Milne remind you of the 'gofer' in CaddyShack.....such an annoying dweeb who was under ground most of last years GF.

Notwithstanding, Mick should never have allowed himself to be drawn into it and in a week where the AFL is encouraging understanding and diversity he will have to pay a pretty hefty fine. He has let himself down massively and whats more he has let the club down. Just sends a really crap msg to young coaches / players etc.

I think it's actually pretty funny that he just said what:

a) We all think

b) What every non-Saints supporter says about Milne.

Pretty sure St.Kilda aren't going to push the issue since Milne called Licuria a fa**ott

I think the Apology was just to save time and Mucking around with the AFL and saves Distraction for the playing Group

The only reason he is the most sledged player is because he starts it in the first place.
The little mouth on that dirty little d*& never stops, just look at every time he went near Luke Ball. He can give it, but he can't take it. What was said was said because he made his way over to the team, he could have taken a high road for once and not gone over to the Collingwood team, but no.

:thumbsu: side by side we stick together!...Micks not going to take any shit about his players or coaching staff...and do you think he really gives a f... what the media or afl thinks...never has and never will...its about the pies for MM....and he apologised for the club, nothing more nothing less.

Poor little Milne. He must feel so.......violated - just like a woman.

Malthouse did the right thing. Milne is a neanderthal, doing exactly what the AFL aims to eradicate with this campaign reported in yesterday's Age:

Top footballers are to front a campaign against homophobia.

AFL football may have a reputation for blokiness, but dozens of top players and coaches have launched a campaign to promote tolerance of homosexuality.
The ''inclusion and diversity'' campaign boasts some of the biggest names in football, including Neil Balme, Joel Selwood and Brownlow medallists Jimmy Bartel and Adam Goodes.
Almost 30 players and coaches have signed up to the Players' Association project, to be launched officially next month.

Frankly the bottom line is Milne is sub human filth and deserves much worse than that. The manufactured outrage of this story all seems to be based around the fact that St Kilda thinks he should be treated like a human being, well he can be treated like that when he starts acting like one.

I just want to ask 1 thing. Who put together this "mediocre" list?

That's the biggest cop out ever. His list, his team. No excuses for how bad it is.

And the funny thing is, Malthouse was the only one of the two that had his facts right. :D

Shouldn't have lied in the firstplace, we look a bit silly at the moment. No issue with the sledging though, give as good as you get IMO.

Brilliant point !
You forgot to mention Montagna, the 3 some partner.
A little strange that Lovett goes to St.Kilda and he gets accused of rape.
Might have something to do with initiation at that club.
You have to rape someone before they let you be one of the boys.:p
Milne should know what others think of him and should shut up.
He will never wash himself of the rapist tag.
A guy I know was at the NAB cup Grand Final in the AFL members section.
He told me that some bloke yelled out rapist when Milne got the ball. The guy next to him was Milne's father. He called security and the poor Bulldogs supporter got thrown out.
Gold. :D
