There's a bit of chat around Marc Murphy at the moment. He'll be 31 in July and an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.

The money would still have to be on him staying at the Blues but would/should he consider a move to a contender for the last 2-3 years of his career?

As a WC supporter, I'd welcome him, particularly if Gaff leaves. Although we'd have to work out a trade with Carlton to avoid our FA compensation being diluted.

I couldn't see him leaving. Definitely to late to move especially considering he'll be 32 before next years final series

Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell switched clubs aged 33 and 34 respectively.
Hodge to a club well and truly lacking stars and not in the window. Mitchell to a club that was probably down on what they could've achieved.
Fair point though

What does this demonstrate? You reckon Murphy wouldn't get as game at a club contending?

There's no age limit on moving clubs.

well i can't think of many contending clubs that would need a midfielder. Not knocking him as a player but why get a 32 year old to fill something that a 26 year old can do.

The Crows could do with him.

Unfortunately we haven’t seen his best for a few years, but most contending sides would love to have him.

Class footballer who would do very well at half forward with bursts through the middle.

Likely to be his final year as captain, there will be questions asked by other clubs, but think he’ll stay a one club player.

Yes quite probably. But if he asked to go, he'd probably go with Carlton's blessing, I imagine?

Agreed. Gets maligned but is still a serious player, and particulalry so if he got an outside attacking role.

I think he got in the coaches votes something like 15 times last season. I doubt there would be many more than 2-3 who would've achieved that.
Would suit any top side but hope to hell he stays

With Carlton short on experienced players and lacking depth in a team full of kids, Why would they let him go ?
They would be lucky to get a 3rd rounder at best and would have to be a Mitchell type trade or FA contract worth $400k which Carlton would match

No winners here and better to stay a 1 club player and for Carlton culturally would be terrible after already losing Gibbs the year before

I read an article about him where he said he wanted to stay at Carlton, but he wanted to play finals and admitted that it's probably out of reach at this stage of his career, however I cannot for the life of me find the link to that article again. I believe a move isn't out of the question.

I think a few clubs would take him on board though. An experienced midfielder who lead a midfield through years of struggle and still has some good footy in the tank too is welcome to a few sides
Adelaide - if they fall short again, I could envision a swing at him to team up with Gibbs and potentially push Adelaide over the line in 2019
Geelong - if they can make room, he'd be another welcome inclusion to the super-midfield I think
Melbourne - in a premiership window and could use his assets in combination with the likes of Jones, Lewis and Vince.
St Kilda - need a boost in midfield and a free swing at Murphy is a step in the right direction if he doesn't have to win a hard ball
Sydney - an immediate upgrade on their depth midfielders who can't contribute enough to a premiership tilt
West Coast - if they fall short in 2018, Murphy would be a healthful inclusion to their midfield unit

Will be good for a club like Melbourne, North Melbourne, Sydney and Crows that lack a little bit of outside polish. He is a very good outside player but would demand a three year contract on reduced wages for him to leave
