Somehow sledging is still condoned and the only discussion we need to have is where we draw the line in the sand.

Footballers should just football. Don't worry about hunting in groups using words to put an opponent off. Not needed and stamp it out once and for all.

Seriously as if Carlisle would have gave a *. That's seriously the least harsh sledge you could ever think of. A drug user couldn't give two *s if someone calls them a pothead, coke fiend etc.

For what it's worth (probably not much).... Howard Cotton, who's a friend of of Murphy's dad, said on SEN on Thursday night that Murphy senior told him that Mark started it with a generic sledge to Carlisle about a making a soft effort in a contest ("weak effort", or something along those lines, probably more harsh)

Sledging is a part of pretty much all sport. If you let it get to you you're already at a disadvantage. Only lines we've universally agreed you can't cross are race, sexual preference and religion. Other than that, good luck policing it. Murph should have hardened up, as should Carlisle. If any player says something too far, you can be sure 17 other blokes will be into them the rest of the game.

Well that's what happened - Carlisle said something too far and Murphy got into him. So what's the problem ? Why are you saying Murphy should harden up ??

Because he bloody well should. Maybe Murphy can become Kleenex ambassador as he seems to sook it up an awful lot.

When did he sook exactly? Been explained many times before in this thread but sequence of events goes like this;

Murphy sledges Carlisle (drugs or generic 'weak effort')
Carlisle sledges Murphy (his missus/carey)
Murphy sledges Carlisle as he's running back to the middle while Carlisle is on the ground
Saints take exception, melee ensues
Both sides happy to leave it on the field
Social media and journos whip things into a frenzy to the point where both Monday footy shows lead with it and Murphy decides to issue a statement

Struggling to see where either side has had a sook.
