not best 22 just yet

very highly rated amongst supporters and coaches

will most likely be used as a utility

His my pick to come into the side to replace Schammer.
I think with Hasleby back that either Drum or Mundy may get a midfield role while Schamm is recovering

From the intra-club game, Browne seems a more logical conclusion to replace Schammer. definitely want to see Drum in the team, but we need someone who can play the same role of a fast midfielder.

Schammer fast midfielder?
Just quietly Drum is faster than both Browne and Schamm.

I think we have many players to cover Schammer who are similar ie J Carr, Bell.

I think that whatever role Schammer has left open whether it be a wing or half position role someone who was already in the side will cover it, or in the case of being a half forward Dean Soloman will have his position

MacPharlin may be faster too, but he isn't a midfielder.

But Gav, Schammer wasn't really playing midfield last year either....the last bit of last season I thought he was playing the role of a crumbing half forward.

Exactly. Solomon to take his place. Defensive half forward. Occasional stint on the ball and wing. Seems exactly what Solomon is being groomed for.

Solomon will take Webster's spot in the team.

If Browne performs in the nab cup he is guaranteed a place in the round one team to add some speed to a midfield that lacks pace.

Drum is cover for any of our tall/medium forwards or defenders. An injury to Tarrant, Solomon or Pavlich will see him get a run as a forward and an injury to Grover, Mundy, Parker or McPharlin may see him selected as a defender.

Who's spot will Hasleby take? Or Grover, Haddrill, Thornton and Tarrant for that matter? They should all be ready come round 1.

Selectors will have a difficult job come round 1. In fact all season should be difficult.

Pace shouldn't be a problem. Peake, Headland, Farmer, Hayden, Crowley, Pavlich, McPharlin are no slouches.

From the side that played in the prelim Schammer, Webster and McManus won't play round one, making room for Hasleby, Tarrant and Solomon. From there it gets really tough, because I can't find anyone to leave out for Browne and one of Grover/Haddrill. Cook may be made to earn his spot like last year, but if he plays well in the nab cup they won't be able to leave him out. If Black doesn't play any nab cup games he may have to find match fitness in the wafl.

The more I think about it there is no way that Drum will play round one unless we get a couple of injuries or he really stands out in the nab cup.

McManus is going to find it extremely tough to get a game.

There are certainly no excuses if we underperform this year (or in the next couple).

When he was draft CC made the comment that bone tests showed that Drum would grow to about 6'5" tall. That being the case I can see him being groomed as a key defender. Especially seeing that he seems to have good pace and mobility.

Yikes. If that is the case, then I doubt if he is currently 190cm, the same as last year. I'm not saying that Browne will play in the round one team. But he's a more likely replacement for Schammer than Drum.

There is definitely going to be some pain as players who deserve a spot on the list miss out. Hopefully they do not react as some of the players seemed to react last year. The enduring disappointment for me with Polak is that he took the option of being traded to a team where he has little competition for a spot in the playing list from one where he needed to improve his work rate to get a game. Big contrast to MacManus and Cook.

And Jimmy Walker. Would have been easy for him to put up his hand and bugger off back to Collingwood, but he's putting in the hard yards, working towards a recall....

Maybe - but would any of these clubs actually want these players? You see -Polak had significant age and potential on his side. Cook, McManus and Walker don't have that luxury in trades.

Yeah well there's that too... :o

But I do agree with Gav. If Polly had "heart" to go with his "potential", he would've worked his arse off to get back into the side, and not buggered off as soon as the going got tough. He never took responsibility for his non-selection, instead blamed it on "not being given opportunities". He had almost 4 years and 75 games worth of opportunities!! Medhurst on the other hand, publickly stated that he probably didn't make enough of the opportunities when they were presented to him, and was reluctant to leave. Medders deserves some respect for taking that stance, whereas I'll be preparing my best "Judd/Glendinning Medal-esque" boooooooo for when we play Richmond this season. :D

If I was Polak's manager I would have thought being traded was the sensible option. Polak needed more development, more games under his belt, which he wasn't guaranteed of getting at Freo.

At Richmond, Polak fills a big hole in their defence and can get 25 games under his belt in 2007 to fully develop that prodigous talent. He helps them, they help him.

And it gives him a fresh start and a different perspective on life. Remember Polak is a Coolbellup boy. He's hardly ever been out of his own backyard. Moving to Melbourne will probably make a positive difference.
