Thought I’d get a thread started for this incredible game.

Your all in for a treat, Rainbow Road in this game might just be the best ever track in Mario Kart history

I've played a few hours. Mainly positive experience but it needs an open mind to embrace the changes.

Grand Prix was a mix bag. Some cups are interesting to drive in the open format while others were a bit tedious with none of the tracks standing out from one another.

Online was good. Some races are 3 laps of the track while others you drive to the track if it's part of the track you did in the previous race. I like that it seems to be a lot smoother with driving into objects and getting hit not wiping you out as much as it did in MK8.

I have not played knock out mode yet but from what I've read, it may be the best of the online modes.

So far, I have enjoyed it, but not played it a lot. I noticed a lot of the tracks are retooled versions from old games, which I wonder about. Were Nintendo being a bit lazy, or making use of nostalgia bait? Either way, I am not complaining, it's more of a small observation.

Knockout mode with 24 players is insane. Only played battle mode once, it was alright, but it's never been my preference.

Reading the online forums for the last few years I think people want the Nostalgia hit.

Nintendo are playing it safe for sure but it's what people want.

The negative reaction to GP not being 3 laps probably justifies them going back to the same old tracks.

For me I'll never complain about seeing the same tracks over and over.

That's just standard for Mario Kart?

Yep. People froth over Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but of the 96 courses only 28 of them are new. I mean there are 5 different versions of Rainbow Road...

Nintendo charge you $60 a year for the convenience of playing games you already own on a modern system. Nostalgia is their business.

I've played MK World now for an hour or two and I like it more than MK8 but not as much as MK Wii which is the pinnacle. Decent enough graphics, 32 tracks, 4 players locally and the right mix of skill vs smashing the controller and kicking the dog in gameplay. Could never warm to MK8. Yeah it's cool to have so many tracks and characters but being able to change the type of wheels in your kart isn't really what the series is about. It's a simple concept that has evolved over time with better graphics and processing power. A boring game with crystal clear 4K graphics is still boring in my book. 3 laps, a minute or so a lap, 4 times. All you need to ruin friendships.

There's a limit to how far Nintendo can go with the series IMO because of how simple it is at its core. It's gone from 2D to 3D, two player to four player to online, graphics have gone from 16 bit up to HD. The novelty of motion controls has come and gone. I like the safe approach of keeping GP (battles and time trials are fun but no GP no MK) and introducing knockout and free roam as extra modes. It's branching outside the norm without changing what made it popular too much.

Played some online racing a few hours ago.

Only me and a few others in the lobby for racing so I played knock out tour where the Lobbies were full and I didn't get into the final 12 after about 6 races.

Online knockout tour looking like it's going to be very competitive and challenging!

I'm finding the game play is more enjoyable and less frustrating than MK8.

Played a fair bit of MK8 the last few weeks and having 3-4 players behind you getting bullet bills and wiping you out was very frustrating.

I feel like with the added 12 players there is less looking over your shoulder and you can just focus on driving ahead.
