99 Games - 1 Prem Medal - 25 years old - case of the sads.

Does this lumbering dinosaur have any trade value?

Pros - Excellent Tap Ruckman - Experience

Cons - Kicking - No Pace

Where could he go, and for what?

very few clubs and for not much, unless you wanted reinvent him solely as a forward perhaps?
Probably GWS is the most likely.

definitely GWS would be the main option to offload Blake.
I would argue with the 'no pace' assessment though, he's not particularly slow for a ruckman, he's just lazy - or 'lacks intensity' if you prefer :(
good tap ruckman though, would be in the league's top bracket fwiw ...

I'd be happy just to see him gone tbh ..

I admit to being a Blake sympathizer. I think his ability in the Ruck could get him a gig with a young club. If GC got him, he would be a superb training partner for Zac Smith. I think he could replace Angus Graham. as blake is used to rucking to a good midfield brigade.

Not a lot I'd say - right now he is a 2nd string ruckman with a small bag of tricks. In many respects the way the game is being played I think it has gone past him to be honest - you simply don't have the luxury of playing two ruckman and resting them on the bench with this sub rule.

Not a very good option as a resting forward, doesn't get around the ground very well and doesn't seem to know where to place himself to be best available for a helping defensive chop out. Being a good tap ruckman (which he is) doesn't cut it anymore - he really needs to reinvent himself and add a few tricks to his bag and improve his "tank".

The likelyhood is that like Josh Fraser and GCS, I think Blake will find a home at GWS.

I reckon Blake would benefit from a mid-season draft. There are a handful of clubs that need an experienced second ruckman to bolster their stocks right now.

It seems Blake is 4th or 5th in line at Geelong now, behind Ottens, Hawkins, Vardy, and Dawson.

Amazing how a simple rule change can impact on a guy's future. Can he sue the AFL?

Under the rule change he isn't a second ruckman because he doesn't have the flexibility required to be one. He's not good enough to be a first ruckmen so he's basically obsolete unless GWS want a big bodied ruckman on the cheap while they develop some kids. Even then I would take West from Geelong ahead of Blake as he has the potential to go forward and take a contested grab.

If players could sue the AFL for being shit, I'd make millions.

After the 2010 trade period, it's apparent that Geelong would not get anything for Blake. GWS may pick him up as an insurance policy, but I'd say the best we can hope for is a 'pass' draft pick. Getting less and less confident of him making 100 games too.

Underrating of Blake itt. He's no Ottens, but he's a good to very good tap ruckman. If we got a 3rd rounder for a 29yo Fraser, Blake should get a 2nd rounder at least.
