The game's not over yet so there's still time for him to make errors, but I'm gonna jump the gun and declare that he's been excellent tonight.

So hats off to you, Mr. Blake. :thumbsu:

there is no space in the team for stokesy... he doesnt do the team thing, and i cant see anyone being dropped from this side... unless God forbids injuries strike....

Blake was great tonight, but playing against King / Gardiner will be a very different story. He deserves his spot, and good luck to him next week, but it's going to be much harder for him on Saturday.

Blake really straightens us up...especially with Ottens becoming a forward target. WE smashed the clearances tonight and he was partly responsible for this.

He actually performs ok when put under the pump a bit ..... brings to mind his first game against King after the 07 final...honours were even that day, but Blakey really tried. My opinion is he has become better since then, King whilst solid, will probably be outrucked by Blake next week.

I am sure given that he has been bagged for his poor contesting against Gardiner in Rnd 14 and the imminent battle with King, that Blake will have some fire in the belly. I am looking forward to 'Bambi' standing up for the GF, i think he has after all got it in him!

He still doesnt impress me to be honest, but obviously he'll stay in.

He was ok tonight... against not much opposition. He will need to leave nothing in the tank next week around the ground.

Step up Blakey!

FINALLY! Mark Blake looked like he actually cared tonight and, even though he's horribly unco, provided some contests. And that kick to Paul Chapman in the last quarter was magnificent.

surely the best game he has play all year.

Black vs King match up... OMG...

Who?

How good was Blakey's run in the last term, before spotting up Chappy in the goal square? :thumbsu: Brought back memories of Justin Madden at Waverley in 1993. :D

byrnes wont get dropped
therefore no change

blake was not awesome
awesome is a ruckman who is useful around the ground
he wasnt

good effort, but against who

next week he needs to run, the saints have two dinosaurs that can't run, so he needs to make them by geeting into dangerous positions, and forcing them to run

go gazza

Again the same predictable lines from the rose coloured glasses-wearing Mark Blake fans. lol

He was serviceable tonight, nothing more nothing less. He did the bare minimum expected from a ruckman no impartial reasonable supporter would be getting carried away with that perfomance. Still far from having cemented his spot on this team in the long term, short term we have no other option.

Byrnes on the other hand has made me eat my words. He's taking 7 long years to come good but he's finally repaying the dubious faith Bomba placed in him all those unfruitful years. Good on the little guy. :thumbsu:

Mate, too many post match ales for you. The only time he straightens us up is when he runs to the flanks.

Buggar all stats for Blake and therefore less chance of committing clangers. Just puuurrrrrfect for the Cats.

blake was serviceable tonight and that was all. he doesn't throw his weight around or kick enough goals... i'd prefer the mumford/ottens combination.

it will be too risky to change the side for next week's grand final now. so blake will have to do. hopefully, it will be at least a stalemate between blake and king. i predict this outcome as a result of their days training together on the track. if he can stop king and gardiner from kicking goals altogether, than that will be perfect.

getting ottens from richmond was one of the geelong greatest trades. i have no doubt we would not have had the same success over the last 3 years without him. thank you richmond.

Just to match their tall division and the versitility it would give, thought Mumford would be a consideration?

blake was very ordinary in the first half when the game was on the line. played well when the game was over. collingwood jumped us with blake in the ruck. noticed a change straight away when ottens was moved in there

Dropping Blake mid-season was a great move ...

... because it freed up Tom Hawkins from his paralysis at full-forward.

Ever since Hawkins had a bit of a run on the ball, he's got into the game much more, gained confidence, and started to really shine in the forward line. Although he looked a bit over-awed in the first final, last night showed us what he can really do. As well as his marks and goals, it was his crashing the packs, clever tap-ons and that fantastic tackle that added value to his performance.

And no, this isn't a Mark Blake-bashing thread, I thought he and Ottens worked well in the ruck.

Re: Dropping Blake mid-season was a great move ...

Yeah hindsight is a terrific thing

haha only this time it is soemthing good :)

Was so wrapped to see Hawkins kick some crucial goals at crucial stages last night :)

and his 1% are fantastic

Re: Dropping Blake mid-season was a great move ...

I thought that Hawkins played fantastic last night. His work rate is really good, his two set shot goals were excellent, and that tackle on Maxwell was nothing short of brilliant. Hope to see him play a big part in next weeks Grand Final.
