Toast Mark Blake

I dont rate Mark Blake at all. However last night he did a few good things.
IMO he should be doing those sort of things in every game.

As much as I would love to see the Mumford/Ottens Combo, I don't think it will happen.

He was ok last night, but he was rucking against Wood and Brown.... Rucking against King and Gardiner is something different all together.

I think Blake should be in over Mumford considering Mumford has not played for two weeks, but I am not exactly feeling confident with Blake coming up against King or Gardiner.

Re: Dropping Blake mid-season was a great move ...

In round 14 v Saints, Hawk was nothing more than a passenger. 5 disposals, 2 marks, one behind.

He has improved beyond belief since then, ever since he was given free reign to run through the middle. In fact, I think he's barely played a poor game since.

Last night was a huge huge step for the kid. To be able to mark, tackle and pressure like that in front of a packed MCG crowd really shows he is stepping up on the big stage. I rate Presti very highly and even my one eyed Collingwood boyfriend said Hawkins smashed him all night.

All we need from Hawk next week is forward pressure, a goal or two, those creative tap ons/knocks to other players and to keep a Saints defender honest.

I hope we see Hawk with his first premiership medallion around his neck this time next week :thumbsu:

Re: Dropping Blake mid-season was a great move ...

It was also after Mooney was given a run in the ruck that his goal kicking improved too and he was no longer as lazy as he had been all year. So those few games Blake missed have proven invaluable to our forward line.

It was a good game from Blake when the pressure was on him. The same fixture two years ago cost him a premiership medallion and allowed King to get two in one year. Mumford's season was over as soon as the VFL team were eliminated. I might be putting a bit too much mayonnaise on this, but I like to think that it says a lot about Blake's character for him to come out and play like that againsst the team that cost him a position in the 2007 grand final. If that's any indication, I'm quietly confident about the incentive he will take into this game against his nemesis King.

If Stokes were to come in, the player who'd be most at risk, in my opinon, would be Varcoe. But that will not happen...

Read in the paper this morning Hawkins only had 8 touches, but all but one of those were contested. Would love to see how many 1 percenters he had though.

ALF.com game him a 3. If thats correct, half the colingwod side would be in the negatives! He was servicable, but he will need to be better next week.
