GEELONG revelation Mark Blicavs is about to sign a new long-term contract that will hand him a significant pay rise for his audacious rise to fame.

The Cats are putting the finishing touches to a contract extension with 24-year-old Blicavs, who is on a modest deal in his first official year on the senior list.

He does not have a manager — preferring to manage his affairs through his family — but the deal with Geelong is almost done.

But Geelong will have to work hard to ward off the advances of rivals circling uncontracted goalsneak Steven Motlop.

Clubs including Richmond, Greater Western Sydney and West Coast continue to inquire about the 24-year-old’s availability.
Are the main parts.

Fantastic news. He'll be a superstar this kid.

Good news in regards to Motlop too. Maybe we can trade him for a young player who isn't selfish and shows some form of desire.

He has earned every cent and the security of a longer term contract. He's been good to the club and I hope the club treats him right. I'd love him to be a 200+ game player for the club, there aren't many more deserving of it

I love how he doesn't have a parasite... I mean manager.

Wow. You'd think in averaging career highs in tackles and clearances so far this year he'd have some level of desire and effort for the team.

Strange that they can get his deal done so quickly, but not Hawkins or Motlop.
Where is it written that they have to negotiate best players first? Maybe Blitz's contract was just more simple. We don't know.

Should they hold a gun to their heads? If the player doesn't want to talk contract talk, what are you suggesting they do?

I mean Hawkins mother was very ill and died, that could maybe trump contract talks in his list of priorities?

I don't need to rely on stats when I go to the games and watch him continually refuse to chase... That's a lack of effort.

Cool. Off with his head.

But maybe if the stats tell a different story to what you think you're seeing, it is possible your perspective is biased. Just throwing it out there as a possibility.

This contract would have been pretty simple, he was a Rookie when he got his last contract. He's probably gone from a 2 year, 150k a year wage to a 4 year 400k a year wage.

While Motlop last contract was a two year probably 400k a year deal, he probably wants a two year contract on even more money but his form hasn't been enough to deserve the higher wage, he'll re-sign when his form improves.

Hawkins contract is probably dependent on what ever money we have left over after they workout what they have left from resigning others and what they need to pay to bring in a free agent. He'll get a long term contract on good money with a large fixed component, to compensate for his overall less then market value wage.

Blitz better than Hawkins? That'd be a no from me.
No.
Hawkins
Selwood
Taylor
Blicavs
would be my top 4, in near that order.
Nevertheless, the most important signing after Hawkins for this season.
I would HATE seeing Blicavs playing elsewhere.
Motlop? like one said, we can wait.

I know you don't like stats but his Pressure acts are going quite strong this year 15.4 per game which is on par with all of our other mids (except Caddy who's on 19 per game) , at times you can see that he doesn't chase but it wouldn't surprise me if he's got nothing left in the tank to chase. His GPS numbers would be high both in distance and speed. For every time he doesn't chase you're overlooking the 4 times he did.

Mark , we love what your doing , we would like to triple your contract , and extend it out a bit...... doesn't have to be hard to accept that.

Why would my opinion be biased?

As long as those stats keep accumulating we'll judge him on that will we?

Na, my eyes don't deceive me.

I guess that's why Dane Swan is considered a champion... It's those stats, while people keep overlooking the fact that he continues to turn the ball over by foot and his opponent keeps having an influence because he refuses to chase.

Granted Motlop can influence a contest with X factor but he's a show pony who plays for himself.

It's not written anywhere, but not getting the contracts of important, big-name players done is a concern. I'm sure Blitz's contract was more simple. Probably less money to give up, but the days keep ticking by for Motlop and Hawkins.

I'm not suggesting they do anything, but it's concerning that those contracts have yet to be wrapped up.

Hawkins' personal issues probably did hold contract talks up, and I imagine the club has given him the space to work those things out, so he can come back to discussing the contract in due time. I just hope we don't come to October with both Hawkins and Motlop heading to Brisbane because the club was never able to coax them into signing their contracts.

Didn't Motlop say just a week ago that contract talks are well under way ?
Means nothing until he signs the contract. He might need to "think about it" until October like Christensen.

Stop getting all DQed over it
Because no player has ever been able to walk out of the club for well under his value because the club wasn't able to get him signed in time... Nothing to worry about.
