Is there any possibility of getting him down to Geelong as an assistant coach? Granted that he wasn't the most talented player and that he has been out of the top flight for a few years now, but he has something that Bomber hasn't.

At last weekends BFL GF, with his team, Ocean Gove, 9 points down at 3/4 time, about to kick against the breeze against an opponent who went the season undeated, and with captain off injured with a broken jaw, he threw the jumper of the injured captain into the team huddle and reminded everyone of the sacrifices that player had made. Ocean Grove went on to win by 9 points.

Can you imagine Bomber doing that?? He just couldn't. Motivation is a thing that he struggles with. Every week, Geelong just goes missing for a week or two. That's motivation.

How can you say he lacks motivation you idiot. Do you sit there and listen when he talks to his players. Buddy i think your confused, you don't need to yell and scream to motivate. Motivation to players can come in many forms.

Of course it comes in many forms, and I don't know whether Neeld was yell and screaming for that matter either.

But the fact of the matter is that Geelong as a team consistently goes off the boil. If it was one or two players going off the boil, you can point at the players, but when a whole team goes the boil you look at the coach. Bomber has said himself he doesn't know why the team does it. Well that is simply not good enough. If Geelong is going to go forward than every player needs to be playing to the best of their ability. Simply, Bomber just lacks the skills to motivate the team .

i agree with jim boy

geelong r mediocar and maybe they need a good yelling at to make them see that losing is not acceptable.

we need to boo them off agter a bad loss eg western bulldogs instead of clapping them off.

i rekon he would be a great coach if he came to geelong, he sounds like he has balls not like thompson.

I agree with you, the crowd at Skilled Stadium should never clap the team off after a loss. I wouldn't go as far as booing our own players, but after a loss the crowd should just be silent, no clapping a loss, that is absolute rubbish behaviour.

You're right, we shouldn't continue to put up with crap performances from our club.

YAY someone agrees with me!!!!

So what if he wasn't the most talented player during his time ?

Look at the list of the best coaches over the last 30 years :-

Sheedy, Malthouse, Hafey, Jeans, Kennedy, Parkin, Pagan etc.

All good footballers but not champs. The only one who really breaks that mould is Matthews.

there was some rumours of him comin down to Geelong a couple of weeks ago. he seems like a worthy applicant of an assistant coach spot.

so considering we only have 2 vacant assistant coaching job roles at the club, who do you reckon should get them? Garry O'Donnell, Mark Neeld, Ken Hinkley, Brian Royal...??

1. O'Donnell
I wonder if getting O'Donnell to our club might help Mark Thompson out?? They both come from a background of playing under Kevin Sheedy at Essendon, and O'Donnell has worked with Leigh Matthews at Brisbane to broaden his coaching ability. I think this combination has a lot of potential.
