Preview Mark Neeld's 'Gaps'

Yes! We need more run through the middle of the ground. Our backline holds together ok and our forwards make the most of limited opportunity. It's our midfield where we are deficient right now. We need pace and some class asap through the centre.

O'Meara would be nice, but I feel is out of reach. GWS is in the box seat and unless we are willing to possibly part with both our comp picks, then I'd say we are best to concentrate on getting mids this draft. We get Viney next year, and as good as he is, he is more of a bullocking player. We could do with a couple of Nick Dal Santo types. Smart ball users who can rack up possessions.

Give us a couple of years and our 'gorilla' type forward will either come from within(Fitzpatrick/T.McDonald/Martin) or once we are playing finals we can trade for the right type. But unless there is a standout KPF in the draft, lets get some mids into our club(especially with $cully now gone).

Our midfield isn't deficient, it's just young.

Who are the youngsters? Trengove, Gysberts? I still think we are short 2-3 decent midfielders in our squad. Sylvia hardly plays on the ball, and Jones seems to play in the back half more than the midfield. I'd love to see Grimes enter the midfield rotations, but he seems destined to settle in defence, as does Bennell and Blease. But look at Geelong and Collingwood. They both rotate a dozen guys through the middle throughout a game. We need more classy midfielders in the squad IMO...

Lack 2-3 good - Great midfielders, Trengove, Moloney, Gysberts. Mckenzie is a good inside midfielder tagger and Jones is useful, thats 5 genuine units

Then add a Grimes, Blease, Bail types

I honestly think it's the ball. AFL uses the sherrin, U18 uses the Burley brand. Maybe Morton just prefers the Burley?

What happened to these footskills?
I still have faith this kid could be what we hoped, if Morton starts living up to his potential, everyone will start remembering just how good this kid is. Hes a CHF size midfielder with good pace, good hands, clean skills, he is the next Adam Goodes and Brendan Goddard if he can find it within himself.

I've posted this here before and I'll say it again. Morton has talent to burn. I just think he's a confidence type of kid. Lack of certainty about his position and selection week by week completely sapped his self belief.

Make or break year for Cale methinks.

Is all outside possessions though. very good outside possessions. The amount of time and space he had was a joke, doesnt get that in the AFL. And his contested marking... what we would give for that Morton

Still not many one percenters or tackles in his highlight real - he does take a few contested marks though - if he could bring that into his game at AFL level it would help.

I think we should try and turn him into an Embley type.

A true winger.

That said, when it's his turn to go he has to go... no shadow of a doubt.

But we need to get him super fit and get him to work incredibly hard offensively to get into space and give him time to hit a target in our F50.

If he can do that he will be an absolute nightmare to match up on.

I acknowledge im a Crows supporter and I have never posted on another teams board before, but Jack Grimes is one of my favourite players to watch.

I noticed in this thread there are a lot of you saying that Grimes will play next season. I was under the assumption his injury as severe and was in doubt. If anything would be playing in the 2nd half of the season at best.

If anyone knows, what is the latest with Jack? Will he have a full pre-season?? Cheers.

I agree, im a Morton fan, as hard as it was last year. He is full of potential and people have asked who may benefit from having Neeld as coach? hopefully Morton, and he turns his game around

Morton could be a monster if he really wanted to... not that i doubt he wants to be the best footballer he can, but with his size, and running capabilities he could be a tackling, pressuring machine ect

I know what we did last year and took cook... What if his a dud and doesn't make it then what?
Draft another kpp can never have to many!

I dont disagree we need a big forward, but with only doing limited reading into this years draft and who is available at pick 12, the only ready made tall forward who could have an impact next year is Patton who will go pick 1 or 2. There maybe be bigger blokes later in the draft but after pick 20 or so this draft is meant to be a real lottery. There is no point paying overs for a bloke becuase of his size and possibly missing out on a gun mid or small forward.

Would not surprise me if Neeld has a massive hard on for the likes of Bail, Grimes and McKenzie. Calling it early, but these blokes ain't ever gonna be dropped

Morton was all but gone until Neeld turned up. The Bailey game plan didn't really gell with Morton. I reckon we will see many changes in how players adapt. The more I think about it, the more it seems bailey didn't have any real idea of how to get the team to work. Maybe just a lack of game plan.

Things will look different next year - we will play like a team again.
