If you don't understand that leaking one clubs figures is unfair when every single club had positive tests, then I'm not sure what the point of this discussion is.
You don't think perhaps he also has an agenda here? Bucks & Chris Scott certainly felt he did & told him so. The headline could have even been "Every AFL club returns positive hair tests for illicit drugs. But that wouldn't sell as many papers as Collingwood test positive. Daily telegraph then thought they would say 30 positive tests. Apparently you can make up your own numbers & print them. Stick up for the POS all you like, I don't think you will have many mates on this.
I think whoever leaked the figures has an agenda. But that's not The fat man's concern. If the leak comes from an indisputable source, you run with it and you run hard.

No one can be sure of the supply chain of drugs. And if you believe your drug dealer that nothing untoward has happened to your drugs, then .......lol

I've never bought drugs except at the chemist... I find it hard enough dealing with ultratune, although I realise drug dealers are never that shifty

I'm sitting here not sure whether I should be laughing or just stunned that people are more indignant that the club has been named and shamed. But not one bit concerned that up to 11 players have potentially placed themselves in the same situation as Thomas and Keefe!!!

It's hilarious but then again it's not!!!

It's like watching the Titanic sink but you're worried that the pool might get salt water in it!!

Bet you say Differently IF he wrote about your Club:rolleyes:

I would be more upset at the rampant drug use by players after two of their mates gone suspended for PED use when they were taking cocaine. That implies two things, the players are stupid and haven't learnt from that incident and there is a lack of respect by the players towards the President, CEO and Coach will oversee a culture that is sustainable. Leave Mark Robinson alone, he is an idiot and a drunk but he would be negligent not to run this story. I doubt any other journalist would not have gone with it.

I have weak convictions about illicit drug use by players as the illicit drug policy is a PR exercise. But you have to be very dense, have no respect for your club and it's leaders if you continue to dabble in them when you have seen two of your mates suspended because they took cocaine laced with a performance enhancing drug.

Gerard Whately wouldn't have. and neither would a lot of other journalists. Robbo is a gutter journalist, so he did.

Whately doesn't have the concerns of cut and thrust competitive journalism to worry about. He's at the genteel face of ABC sports journalism where he can sit back and act more as a commentator of the sporting landscape.

I wonder if he was thrown into the world of deadline journalism whether he would be any different.

So, if the difference is just a matter of 2 players, does it change the context of the story,?

The thing is, very few people have said that they're not concerned about illicit drug taking. You've just constructed a straw man and then you've gone and beat the crap out of it. Kind of sounds like a certain journalist...

If the story was about drugs in the AFL & it hadn't been leaked (to suit someone's agenda) & ours named only, guess what?

We may actually be talking about drug use at our club.

People who are attacking posters may not realise, one it's no surprise, two some may very well be upset but are talking about Robbo, in a thread titled.........

You should've read his posts on "Chopstickgate". Then you would understand a bit more.

I have it on good authority that the team with the highest number had up to 42 players test positive to illicit substances!

Incredibly, the club with lowest number had up to 42 players test positive too!

Thing is, the more I read from some posters the less I understand...

I'm furious! The story is about the extent of illicit drug use in the AFL. Others have made the story about Collingwood having players involved in illicit use. Why? because we are the biggest sporting club and the most loved and hated in the land. Robbo could have gone with former, but his trade is about maximising sales, and Collingwood in the headlines sells. Buckley made this clear to Robbo on AFL360, but Robbo's response was be it Collingwood or be it Geelong the story remains the same. I disagree. Be it Collingwood and papers sell - simple!

How do you propose the club deal with something they have been excluded from?

Of course the major talking point should be the amount of AFL players who tested positive for illicit drugs. But it is the amount of Collingwood players who tested positive instead. As has been discussed previously. It is a serious AFL problem at all club levels. But that discussion has been hijacked because somebody wanted to just make it about us to sell more papers. How much talk is there about it on the other club boards for instance? Bugger all because most of them are pointing the finger at us. I'm pretty sure it was Ed on his radio station that said some of the players were called druggies on Saturday night by the crowd. Sure we should be concerned about the positive tests, but most of the other clubs probably aren't because we are taking the can for all of them because of Robbo. I'm also stunned that you don't get that.

That strawman has seen 2 players suspended for 2 years for the very activity that was published.
