Mark Williams is just performing a "Nigel" in creating some feeling for sundays game.

Now is he doing a copy-cat of previous showdown games niggling ??

I reckon he is. :)

Lets just hope he makes a better fist of backing up his words with actions than Nigel managed to do.

Well, be fair, it's hard to get the news out quickly when you have to
1. Listen to / read transcripts from 5AA, 3AW, SEN and the ABC
2. Tape and watch all the TV news services
3. Surf the PAFC, AFC and AFL websites (plus BigFooty)
4. Then consolidate and distil all the material, tweak a few quotes and make it look like it's all your own work.

:p

:D yep, thats it

You're not suggesting that that `article' is just a rebadged unofficial AFC release, are you?

Apart from the irony paragraph, which part of that article is wrong

Most of it is quotes, from both Williams and Reid

You guys have such a chip on your shoulder still about the Adelaide meida. Get over it.

if choco can coach a premiership team, i dont think his PR skills would be all that bad.
I suggest you go and look up “non sequitur” in the dictionary. ;)

perhaps you meant craig had better "media skills"? anyway, who cares? media skills dont win you flags either.
True. But the subject of this thread is media skills.

all it does mean is that he'll be a cardboard cut-out at press conferences - able to make the best of the worst situations with all of the classic cliches & you'll be blissfully unaware.
I think we can expect NC to play a straight bat. There haven’t been too many clichés or any spin doctoring in his early communications, but, to use a cliché, why let the facts get in the way…
mark williams tells it how it is & you love it.
He is a straight talker some of the time, yes. His only excuse for some of his dopier public comments is that he is not “telling it like it is”; that he is making things up to “stir the pot”. And as I have said before, his problem there is that he’s not very good at it.
(Admittedly this is exacerbated by some thick heads in the media who wouldn’t know a tongue in the cheek if it …. whatever tongues in cheek do to make themselves obvious :) )

Although it must be said that in my experience, Advertiser writers are not above rejigging quotes to make them fit the flow of the story - not changing their meaning necessarily, but they will change the sequence and patch things together from different places, and still leave the result inside quote marks.

I believe that would be a breach of ethics, but I might be wrong... :)

I think this can safely be said by an Adelaide supporter when they stop howling like the Siamangs at the zoo every time Rucci or McDermott or even Cornes lately says something that isn't fawning sycophantic praise for the crows.

Stones and glasshouses ...

At least when Nigel has a stir he does it with a bit class & nous where as your bloody coach jumps in feet first wearing his Wellington boots up around his mouth.

u know i really don’t think this guy has a clue, like does he think that his little snipes will help his ailing membership numbers?? he gets a five second kick out of having his little fun with he media and single handedly wrecks the marketing departments entire yrs work. i think its safe to say they'll never go up until mark is dumped. Really, the guy can barely coach, lets face it took him four goes with the best squad in the land by a mile. Just get a young guy in there, maybe someone like timmy after a few yrs at the magpies, their squad is so deep i'm sure peter rohde could coach them if needs be. At least with a new coach and a positive attitude, the club has half a chance of marketing themselves. I just love it when he starts about them being the club helping the sanfl……..yep, sure, they’re the team for all south australians…….

WTF?

Had a look at Brisbane's squad in the 2002, 2003 and 2004 seasons recently?

I think both coaches are doing a good job for their clubs at this stage.

Craig is not in a position to play mind games at this stage and if he has it in him to do so down the track the fact that he has played everything with a straight bat up to now will give him a stronger hand.

I really do not understand why so many of you claim Choco is a poor media performer other than wanting to tear down a leading figure in the enemy camp. Mark has come out with some memorable lines in his time, he has managed to get Eddie Everywhere on the back foot on occasion, his gesture with the tie last year is one of the great sporting images of recent times.

Not only that but when you concentrate on his bit of niggle re spying and such like you are missing one of his constant themes which is his reaching out to the non traditional Port supporters. He does this on a number of levels and his message hits the mark. It's like one of those long running advertising campaigns that gradually seep into people's consciousness. In doing this he is playing his part in the clubs long term strategy to broaden it's supporter base.

The evidence is not fully in yet but IMO Mark Williams may well attain an aura similar to his original mentor, Kevin Sheedy. They both are people able to think outside of the square and do the unexpected. We love him at Port. I think it's a good sign that committed Crows fans want to tear him down. It means he is doing his job.

yes with a good coach u'd have at least two premierships by now. Ports squad is miles ahead of the lions. Its only the lions 1st 22 that can beat port, hence when theres a few injuries as there is most yrs and there was last yr, port are a great chance. just need a good coach....

good to see a coach throw himself into his work. :)

If it was possible for your credibility to go any lower you would have succeeded with this post LOL. How many Brownlow medalists has that side had in the last few years. Your own peers don't take you seriously!

Jack me mate...are you serious? Mark's coaching has extracted the best from the talent he has had available. He's made many at Port Adelaide better footballers. Mark has an extraordinarily positive attitude. His enthusiasm and optimism are what has driven the club on in the past few years. Sure he gets fired up when he percieves an injustice has been done, or lack of loyalty or respect shown...but thats an awesome attribute for a coach to have.

Statistics regarding the club the South Australians most identify with has shown a notable shift towards the power over the past few years - from around 35% to nearly 40. You couldn't really be more wrong.

Maybe they aint the team for you...but that's OK.

Agree with the rest of your quote apart from the part highlighted in red.

Brian Cunningham told me a few weeks ago that the current split is 70/ 30 in favour of the Crows. Their ten year plan was to convert that to 60/40.
