I'm not sure whether he has already been mentioned in previous posts, but there is a chance his contract might not be renewed. He has proven to be an excellent match day coach and as far as i can gather is very good with junior development, although his media persona needs a bit of work

If we can get away from the thought that he comes from the port. IMO he would rate as highly if not higher than the other afore mentioned candidates.

Your Thoughts?

No.

Finals failure.

Says it all really.

Who of the new crop has finals success
I can't remember the last premiership terry Wallis won or O'Donnell for that matter.

What criteria doesn't he have apart from a premiership on the portfolio. which would only include 3 coaches if that was the case.

Nah, he's already coached Glenelg once in the SANFL and it didnt work out.

:D

Ditto for every other Glenelg coach except Bruce McGregor, Neil Kerley and Graham Cornes. :D x 1000

No way he is a hack he can go wash cars as far as I am concerned:mad:

I'm obviously missing something here. Don't get me wrong i hate Port as much as the next guy but his win loss record in the last three minor rounds has been pretty impressive. So i can't see how he can be called a hack.

Yeah look to be fair, Collingwood played out of their skins in 2002 in that qualifying final and only won by a couple of goals (Leon kicked one on the final siren); last year Sydney kicked straight as hell and also played out of their skin to only win by 2 goals when Port had that one bad quarter (the second).

Those who don't rate Choco as a coach have serious mental problems - he sh1ts all over Ayres.

Mark Williams is a very good coach. His record speaks for itself and as dyertribe said both of those losses (and include the one against Hawks in 2001) were close and all 3 teams played above themselves.

Sooner or later Port will break through in the finals.

Choko is a very good coach and his win-loss record speaks for itself as does his record in developing youngsters.

Having said that, there is more chance of me becoming a dutchman than Choko coaching Adelaide.

I think he is a pretty good coach & knows how to get the most out of his players.

But even so you can keep your Chocko & i'll take Terry Wallace, Gary O'Donnall or even hang onto Gary Ayres thank you very much.

Wouldn't say no to S Williams as an ass coach.

I am not convinced Chocko is a good coach, maybe he is, but I am not sure.

definitively we will get an answer on this, when Port let him go. If another club picks him up, then we can say he is a good coach. If they don't, well that will tell us what the rest of the league thinks - there will ne no shortage of vacancies this year.
He has described himself as a career coach, so he will want to get back into it.

You don't read the Port board much do you?

I don't like his attitude.

I don't like his habit of blaming losses on injuries when other teams are also injured.

I don't like his shifting of the blame when a bad loss occurs.

I don't like his refusal to accept responsibility when he makes bad decisions or his poor tactics cause a loss.

I think, given how good Port's list is, his actual coaching hasn't been that great.

His gameplan is a carbon copy of....wait for it...Terry Wallace's in the late 90s - the Bulldogs team that dominated the regular season and choked in the finals. See any similarities? Both were short games focused on possession, and both failed under the pressure of finals.

Mark Williams isn't innovative. He just stole someone else gameplan.

He is unaccountable, bad tempered and quick to blame someone else for his own shortcomings.

Now I have asked this many times before, but as yet never any answer.

How did he go when he coached Glenelg?
This is not a trick question as I really have no idea.

From memory, made the finals but could not win them.

Cant remember if he was sacked or if his contract was just left to run dry. Either way Glenelg people didnt want to continue with the Port experiment.

Mark Williams coached Glenelg in 1993 and 94.

93-3rd after the minor round but went out in straight sets after a 6 goal loss to Port and a 10 point loss to Norwood.

94-5th after the minor round and suffered an 8 goal loss to Norwood.

Failed in finals at Glenelg and now at the Power, says it all really.

I handed in my membership (that my grandfather gave me at birth).
I only went to one game while he coached, against wwt and we lost due to poor coaching.

The bay has NEVER recovered from that HUGE mistake.

As a match day coach he hasn't improved IMO.

Thanks all.
Now what was his coaching like?
Did he have a good team to start with or not? He did make the finals.
Did he go defensive come finals time?
