MOTR - Tigers v Falcons - These teams seem poles apart, with one having a seemingly endless list of players knocking down the door for AFL selection or League selection, whilst the other looks like a blue collar, nothing fancy team. This will be the Falcons biggest test, because the Tigers just run, and run, and then run some more, very often very quickly. How will the Falcons counter the Tigers leg speed?

The Falcons have a decent enough midfield, with a fair amount of experience in the likes of Salecic, Guadagnin, Rice, Pearce, Crossland, Shadbolt. However, up against Blackwell, Stevenson, Schammer, Foster, Ninyette, Mitchell, and it doesn't stop there, the Falcons look a little blue collar, and no disrespect is meant by that.

Up forward both teams have good key forwards and good flankers, Darling and Le Cras along with Tsalikis, Saylor compared to Jones, Wilkes and Richardson and Fyfe. Throw in the Q for the Falcons and he may become critical, depending on the role he plays, ie as a forward or further up the ground. Thomson and Laurie have held the Tiges defence in good stead and now that Laurie is out, it will just give another player the opportunity to shine, like Starling. The Falcons defence, like their team really, is largely unheralded. Hunt holds down a key defensive post but new boy Zanetti has been impressive and Fleay and Lasscock always make you earn your kicks.

Royals v Lions - Both teams appeared to have struggled early, although the Royals lost a few consecutive close games. Last week the Lions evened their record against a week, lack lustre, pathetic Swans (oops, sorry:().

The Royals will fight a dogged battle around the midfield with the Lions, because their midfield corps are fairly similar, bigger bodies, not express pace. JON could become the game breaker in this match because he has good skills and is decidedly quicker than anyone I can pick out in the Lions mid. He has also shown a greater appetite for the tackle and chase in the last couple of matches. If McKinley remains in that's a huge bonus, although I am sure Merrington will lift if given the 50m arc to himself. Clarke v Rix will also be a pivotal battle, with Clarke having the edge in speed and agility around the ground but big Rix works hard.

The Lions won last week with greater experience, better use of the ball and good, hard running. Cockie was a welcome inclusion, Bristow worked hard all day, as usual, and young Kerr (no 2) has grabbed my attention and is consistently in the better players, runs hard all day and uses the ball well. Campbell, whilst he kicked 3 last week has been very disappointing for the Lions faithful (well, the ones I talk to),Broadhurst is just a great WAFL player. Been knocked back a position on an AFL list for a few years now, but gives his all for his club and is a very fine player.

Sharks v Bulldogs - on Sunday. Should also be another entertaining match, because we know they'll lift, wherever they are on the ladder, for each other. The Sharks have had a goood start to the season, whilst Souths have been up and down, but nothing like a derby to bring out the best in Souths.

Should be an extra bit of spice in this meeting with McCarrey coming 'home'. The first thing the Sharks need to do is stop the supply from the midfield with Murphy, coming off a red hot game, up forward. The mids is not the Sharks problem, with McNamara, Monteath, McGough, Monk, L Fasolo, Hall assisted by Stevens, Cripps and A Fasolo, players to watch. Goal scoring is the problem, with Dunn probably needing to be left as a forward (he's not too bad when on song) and Kyanga showing promise. After that it's left to the mids to deliver the goals. Defence is sound, with Dodd, Green, Teakle, Dalby.

Souths mids are very good, as we all know, with probably the surprise packet of the season, Nathan "hungry" Phillips developing into a fair winger and delivering the ball nicely to the forwards. Hams will remain a big out if he stays in the Eagles, and no reason why he shouldn't. Up forward Murphy, Wilson and a host of crumbers should thrive on the delivery, whilst down back Head, Hunt and McCarrey provide good stability. Hopefully Dell'Olio re-emerges soon because on fire he was a very, very good mid / small forward.

Demons v Swans - bit of a meh match for me, such is my disappointment at losing to Subi. Both teams suffer mental blocks when it comes to beating Subi, I suggest, and the Demons have started 2010 awfully, so I expect them to come out breathing fire in this danger match for the Swans.

The Dees running division still looks reasonably strong, with Armstrong, O'Sullivan, Young, White, Moody, Cook and youngsters like Elari, Florio, Kickett. Forward wise Bollenhagen has been a little revelation (even though he's young), whilst Ferguson has shown he's more than capable in the past, like Thornton and Moody and youngsters like Houghton have shown a bit. Defensively Billings, Siekerka, McLernon have a reasonable amount of experience and provide good stability, whilst I have long liked Warner and look forward to seeing him play.

Hopefully the ON button is depressed on the Swans brains and they go hard all game. Across the park they have talent, if not a little inconsistency. Robinson was a big out last week and he'll be missed all year. In the mids players, other than Josh Roberts, will need to step up. If 22 Swans went out with Roberts attitude, they wouldn't lose many. Davis, Twomey, Garlett, Wolfenden, Riggio all need to step up. Colreavy rarely puts a foot wrong, as with Simpson. Down back Ames and Notte have been very good, Clancee was missed and I'd like him back, thanks :thumbsu: and Walters was a little quiet but his aggression and attack on the ball couldn't be questioned. The first gamers Boddy and Van Groningen had up and down matches, did some good things and some not so good, but they're new to the caper. Roach and Krakeour have been on fire and, along with their captain, need some help.

In case no one had heard, Sibosado has moved from Claremont to Perth and looks set for a debut at Perth. Looking forward to watching this boy, along with Bollenhagen, Warner, Florio and Smith, so the dees certainly have some exciting talent.

Great game at Lathlain today. Skills from both sides were very good, tempo was high and the pressure hot.

Many of the players started looking out on their feet half way through the third.

Young Sneeuwjagt (7) was pretty impressive and Billings played a good game on Hansen, even though he kicked 5. Ash Smith played probably his best game, as did Walters and Garlett for Swans. Seems to be a good crop of younger players coming through for both sides, with Warner, Bollenhagen, Elari, Eades (looked quite impressive on debut), Sneeuwjagt all looking like having quite bright futures. On Swans side I think they have found some good youngsters in van Groningen, Fleay, Garlett, along with Walters and Notte, whilst they are on AFL lists.

This was always a danger match for Swans and that is exactly the way it panned out. An arm wrestle all day, with 17 points being the greatest margin between both teams. The Perth crowd today, kudos must go to them, because you couldn't hear yourself in the last quarter, especially when Hansen was having that tight angled shot on goal, they were deafening. Keep it up Demons folk and your wins won't be far away and then if you can keep this group together, watch out!:thumbsu:

Sharks leading 61 to 23 at half time with McNamara, Palmer and Stevens named as a dominant mifield by SportFM.

Carn you Sharks! (I ended up not changing my tip :p).

Another solid performance from the Tigers.

Never really challenged after half time, running away to a 30+ point win.

Jonesy was again solid with 6 and Browne and Brabazon had good comeback games.

It looks like West Perth are true premiership contenders, they took it right up to Claremont for 2 and a half quarters, it was good to see us challenge and I was delighted at the way we responded to our first real challenge of the year.

I quess our 70 point + winning streak had to broken eventually

Should be a great game v Swans next week!!
