Williams didn't rate him highly at the start of last year.

Primus has backed him in for about 15 straight games.

What have we learnt about him this year?

IMO - fumbly, error-ridden disposal, increasingly soft and lazy efforts at the ball. No where near enough work ethic and by extension contribution in matches.

If you want a guy to question as getting a gold pass under the current coach, this fella is just about there. Consider the treatment of Banner after last week's game. Broadbent should be treated the same way.

Absolutely furious at his lack of output.

worst player on our list

Has to be delisted at the end of the year surely. This is his 3rd season ffs

Matthew Westhoff and Michael Pettigrew say hi

I rate Broadbent, but his effort hasn't been quite good enough lately. Today he stopped before everyone else did.

Did a good defensive job on lewis i thought

well correct me if im wrong but has been played as a tagger.

the same apprenticeship we gave to players like cassisi and carr , they worked out ok.

3 seasons?? you mean this is his 3rd season just a few games in, is 20 years old. is being given decent roles. im damn happy he is playing. ild like to see how many players would be in the afl if we cut everyone after 3 seasons if they werent a star.

for those saying he should be cut at the end of the year you have no idea.

Stupid.

We have no depth in the backline to replace Chaplin. Cornes will not play in the backline. Simple.

Chaplins mistakes and Carlile giving up before the play had finished cost us more than the fitness of our mids. So play Broadbent at CHB next week on Goodes or ROK (I think we have Sydney?) play Chad up forward and P.Stewart in the middle/down back. Also Jacobs/Moore are both defenders. Stupid probably isn't the word your looking for, try disagree next time!

I'm not suggesting for a minute that he should be delisted.

However, if Primus keeps handing out games to young guys who are not showing signs of improvement, then they will get into the same complacent state of mind about their spots in the team that have undone the careers of Chaplin and a number of other mid-20 yo players.

He may be defensively doing a job for about 2 and 1/2 quarters (think back to his fade-out from halfway through the third quarter against GC, when he could no longer go with Swallow!), but even when he does get the ball, he fumbles (how many times tonight) or shanks a kick. Then in the last quarter, he had hands to the ball at several stoppages and let his body get pushed aside and the ball wrenched free.

I'm not seeing the signs that he is working hard enough at the moment and something will need to give, otherwise we will have another 25 yo Salopek on our hands in 4 years, who plays at one pace and one pace only. Bring some intensity to your efforts, Matthew.

I would agree with you on Carlile.. as i think this guy is just .. not to mention overweight. I forgot we were playing Sydney next week and they lack tall forwards. We cant drop Chaplin though he played quite well in the first half and because Sydney lack forwards he might be able to give us abit of rebound from defense. Broadbent will be dropped he was terrible. It is stupid to think it is just easy to drop our tall defenders as we seriously lack depth there.. we have drafted like shite since 2007 and literally have no promising back.

Don't have a strong opinion on Broady. But he did look soft in the final quarter tonight and some of his kicks under minimal pressure were shockers.

Unfortunately, he was no orphan there in the last quarter

I think "no promising back" is a bit of a stretch, Carlile has been pointed out by both Sheedy and Williams as a player GWS would like to gain, Trengove excites me while still being very "Green" wether the "Culture" is progressing the youth as it should be is another question.

We have a plethora of Backs, but key defenders we are short on. How ever the game has changed and P.Stewart, Pettigrew, Salter, Broadbent, Pittard, Jacobs and these 6'2 players are more suited.

The guys we have drafted, Boak, Gray, Stewart, Westhoff, Butcher, Moore, Pittard, Hartlett, Jacobs, O'Shae all seem to have ability and with the three key backs and Role Players like Pettigrew and Salter we possibly drafted ok, the lack of progression from Chappy and Bob are hurting us. But bargain prices aren't always going to throw up nuggets of gold. It's no coincidence that Collingwood find money and become a force again.

can't agree more with the op. I thought he was gonna be a star, when he'd rack up posessions for the Eagles. But sadly, is too slow, lazy, and I honestly don't think he's cut for the game at this level.

I see much more potential in Davenport, but I don't think we should keep Broadbent. Think we need to make some big calls, find out who can and wants to play at the club. Get teh players we need.

give him full season
20 games only 20 yrs ffs
but yes, big fan, but he isnt running with the ball, just 1-2 with it, and we have 4 of them
considering he doesnt actually get in there and get it, i am questioning where he will contribute
maybe its the role he is playing, but yeah i want to see more too
give him the season
IF he comes good he will be our best mid.

Broady, Banner, Farmer, Bentley, Thomilf, [Ryan] Williams... even Hitchy ... systematic or do we pick skinny kids that look ok then seem to slow down critically once they put on any bulk ? So tonight against Hawthorn again, couldn't help but be reminded of Broady run down at the 'G. Though in his case I think the footy brain is there.

Separate Q to the old chestnut of why our now senior mids in Dom Kane Boak Sal and yes Logan haven't seemed to bulk up all that much [Thomas well there's strength there and a low center of gravity courtesy the lighter space between his ears than others ]
