Dear Friends

Sorry about the bad news and I really don't wish to be ghoulish but this guy is one of my favourite Fremantle people. I enjoy reading about his affection for your club and his quirky insights into Freo in The Weekend Australian. I have a copy of his book (Way to Go) which he signed for me at a forum about footy and politics at the Festival of Perth a couple of years ago. That was very gracious of him, since I had asked him a terse question. We also shared our recollection of the time that Gary Dhurrkay ran through Paul Dimattina at Subiaco Oval, since we were both at that match. (That was his introduction to the strangeness of Fremantle in Way To Go.)

Best of luck Matt, I'm sure the Dockers are all right behind you, as well as every other well wisher.

Despite all our arguments on Insiders, I’ve always found The Australian‘s Matt Price to be a very decent bloke with a kind heart. A loving dad, too, I thought.
So having read his email to colleagues, I won’t be the only one hoping like hell he gets through this:
A couple of weeks back I returned from Canberra with low energy levels. Then last week - and this is perverse - I noticed my left side slightly awry writing a story on Chris Mainwaring. A trip to the GP and a CT scan proved devastating. I have several brain tumours and will undergo exploratory brain surgery on Wednesday.
There is no sugar coating this - it’s dangerous and serious. Telling the three kids has been horrific. I am distraught at the prospect of introducing cancer into their innocent teenage lives. We are entering a long dark tunnel with no guarantees.

Oh crap - that's horrid. :(

Thanks for the news - well thanks is not the right word, but appreciate your sharing it.

All the very best Matt - heads up and fight the good fight. :thumbsu:

This is terrible news :( though I appreciate the heads up too. If anybody finds a site or somewhere we can send well wishes it would be appreciated.

Jesus.

I spent a couple of days in the Canberra press gallery three weeks ago, and very briefly met Matt. He's one of the genuine nice guys of political journalism. I actually thought that he wasn't looking himself - but I put it down to the absence of studio makeup, since I'd only ever seen him before on TV.

:(

That's just left me gutted.:(

Anyone who was overseas or outside of WA during the Drum and Neesham dark ages can appreciate what Matt did for Freo Fans all over with Left Field. It pretty much the only Freo news we got living in Sydney and London.

Hope he can pull through.

I was in complete shock when I read it on Dockerland. Price is by far my favourite journalist and from all reports one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet. My thoughts are with him during this tough battle and hopefully all goes well in the surgery.

A rare intellect whose love for the club is undying, and who understands that it is both the anguish, and the jubilation, which arises from having invested your emotions in football club's fortunes, that enriches our lives as Freo supporters.

It's been comforting to know that you've felt the up's and downs as keenly as the rest of us yet always remain proud, loyal and passionate. Keep fighting M.P.

Just back from the desert and first of all I hear about Mainys passing and now I see this.:(

Keep punching Matt Price.

You are a champion my son.:thumbsu:

Just found out :(

I used to play footy with his son (I was a few years ahead of him) and my dads was mates with him for quite awhile. Always liked his work and always looked out for his articles. Had him round to the family house for dinner before too... Just very sad.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

I hope everything went well for him yesterday. I wondering why no article of his had appeared on The Australian website for a week or so. I hope he gets better. One of the few journalist worth reading.
