steven trigg is quite likely the dumbest ceo of any afl/vfl/sanfl/wafl/ club ever. he was a pe/geography teacher at school. i would suggest that over half the year 8's had better cognitive skills.

I come from a working class town in Melbourne's east. We all played footy and there were some real good ones among us. Some real guns, like any town has. But none of us went to the right schools, and we didn't get the chance to be seen in the "right" competitions. Except one, and he didn't make it mainly because the culture he had did not suit the AFL at that time (early 80's). I bet if he finished his schooling at Scotch College he would have succeeded. lol

We were all (mainly) white.

I'll bet there are plenty here who can identify with that scenario.

So why can't Rendall say what he did about Aboriginals from remote towns having a hard time fitting in.

Given his interview, and the way he answered the questions, (you should rewatch the interview and forget about the emotion and look at it objectively) and realise how many times he contradicts himself, how many times he doesn't answer a question directly and you will see a person that in closed rooms would've made decsions based on race.

Based on this, to be honest I would have thought you'd be more likely to want to listen to someone who wants to solve the problem rather than simply find someone to blame. It just makes people scared of talking about the issue.

I'm not convinced that you have looked at this objectively at all. The conclusion you reach in the second paragraph above is just ridiculous.

And meanwhile, indigenous kids continue to drop out of the system in disproportionate numbers and the perceived need for greater endurance works against them being recruited in the first place.

To me, as a non-Aborigine, that seems an incredibly narrow and inappropriate view of Aborigine identity, culture and achievement and indeed is an arguably racist comment.

The shameless stupid cow is obviously getting kickbacks from the AFL more than ever and the great thing is that she's showing the AFL's true colors of how to crush the minions who care more about the welfare of the game than she can possibily ever understand the moral to the story.

Great to see Matt Rendell in 'action' tonight. He had and still has the respect from the people that matter to him in the AFL community.

The whole idea of judging a player based on race is utterly ridiculous, how bout judging them on their football credentials rather than theoretical generalizations of an entire race? You could make the same generalization that young white men are a bunch of lazy couch potatoes, "so they must all be like that!". Hawthorn might have turned Buddy down if everyone were to adopt such idiotic recruiting criteria. Unconvincing.

It sounds to me to that we have society that is so devoid of any real emotions that as soon as someone has sob we don't how how to react and get on their side.

Rendell's interview was highly inconsistent.

When asked about sensitive comments he made or things in regard he never answered promptly or genuinely.

Rewatch closely again, see his body language, his tone, the way he pauses, fidgets, and what he says. And then come back.

Good post. The sooner Demetrio is out of the AFL the better, I reckon. He obviously has his good points, but I think he undoes them too much by being so arrogant and pig-headed.
I hope he really cops it for this, as he clearly didn't get Rendell's side of the story before he went off the long up at him.

I have not seen the Rendell interview yet, but I saw Demetriou on the Couch and smelt Bullshit.
He had nothing to do with the sacking but he contacted Adelaide when he heard it was a Crow who said it, and then claims to know the intricate details of how it was handled by Adelaide. That didn't sound like "I had nothing to do with it". So it does not surprise me that some of you are suggesting that Rendell is refuting that story.

If Rendell was racist and insensitive why would he have even raised the issue in the first place?
Seems to me like he might have been concerned about the way it was heading and thought something needed to be said.

I took it to mean that football departments would start preferring aboriginals with a white parent as opposed to two aborignal parents, not that Rendell himself would do so.

Rendell himself is an AFL recruiter discussing what AFL recruiters think.

No, he said that aboriginals from isolated/remote communities often struggle with the structure and demand of the AFL system, due to generally coming from a more relaxed, less structured society - comments which Misfud agreed with.

And if thats all he said, then there would be no issue.

What he is reported to have said was very different words indeed.

"If things dont change then in the future AFL recruiters will only draft Aboriginal kids with one 'white' parent."

Dont get me wrong, I think we can all see what he was getting at.

He's more of a goose for poor choice of words, rather than frothing at the mouth racism.
