Matthew Egan discussion

Ok, so from reading a fair few of the threads in the wake of Saturdays disappointment and thinking about what 2009 holds in store for the Geelong Footy Club the name Matthew Egan comes up quite often.

Now, I know there has been various threads around the place tracking his recovery and what not but at this point in time I am struggling to find a guaranteed outcome here.

Some people appear to know things, other people assume things and it gets quite confusing.

Does anyone really know what position he is in and when exactly it will be that Matty returns to play for the Cats footy full on?

People "have heard" he will be lucky to be back at all and others quote Geelong officials as stating round 1 return and others midway 2009.

I would like some sort of solid analysis here!

I am another one who "has heard" from someone who has spoken to Egan. Apparently he is still limping and can't run, he is doing a lot of swimming, but has said the doctors don't know what else he can do.
Sorry really doesn't help figure out when he'll be back, but just adding what i heard

Would it be to much to ask who this "someone who will know" might be, seen lots of reports on various matters here from people in the know that have turned out to be complete BS.

It was just from someone close to him and I'd prefer not to say things like that because you never know who reads the forum.

Better not to say here, I agree. But it would be good to have somewhere to post anything slightly sensitive that could give other clubs any edge. Just share it amongst trusted people.

Yeah something like that.. I actually don't remember how you get access to it, something in your preferences... I'm sure a mod will be along soon enough to let you know.

Pickering has said in the press recently that he will be right to go round 1.

If thats true, then that is great news Catman. I think that we have lacked physical strength in the key positions. Egan at CHB and Hawkins at FF with Mooney at CHF gives the side a much stronger physical presence.

Harry has been great, but I see him more as the 3rd tall in defence if he stays there.

No nothing like that. I'm a nobody.
I just hadn't emailed him in ages so the back and forward email was more, how have you been, hows matt. And his response was along the lines of how's your family, he will be ok for pre season

I'll call in and see him in a couple of months and have a coffee.

That way I'll get lots more time to talk about it.
And I'll get some goss on the aftermath and drafts etc.

I do have another way into the club but it is all 4th hand.
Only things I can get through that channel is things like "this is what scarlo actually said to harvey" i.e I don't get to ask questions.

My brother got the word straight from Egans mouth, he is not limping, he has the moon boot removed and he will be right next year barring any incidents.
