My brother got the word straight from Egans mouth, he is not limping, he has the moon boot removed and he will be right next year barring any incidents.
Lets hope he hasn't lost too much ground from missing an entire year of football

ive also heard a bit on here about how we cant wait to have him back and so on..
and while i cant wait to have him back as much as the next person do you think it is
realistic he will come back and play like he did in 07'. We all hope he does but he has
been out for over a season and i worry that perhaps he wont be able to get back to
his form of the all australian year.
Also when he does come back what does this mean for Harry?? back to playing twos
footy for him..=S
I think it means Harry wont have to hold down CHB. In seriousness, Taylor has great potential as a utility. I's be keen to see him tried in a few different spots.

Sorry can't agree here.Well i think its been great for him to have this responsibility though and has had a fantastic first year all round really and working with Tommy and Scarlo would have helped him no end. But when Egan does come back and if he does then it would you think push Harry out of the backline barring no injuries and i dont no if he is much more then a solid defender and able to lock down on a great player. To me perhaps dosnt seem like someone with fantastic skills and at times seems a little fumbly when the pressure is on. Obviously he has a bright future i just love the work he has done down back this year![]()
Sorry can't agree here.
1. His skills are brilliant.
2. "i dont no if he is much more then a solid defender and able to lock down on a great player" - Not 100% sure what you mean on this one, but if you are saying he is not much more than a lock down defender on a great player (ie Riewoldt), then I would say that makes him much more than a 'solid defender'.
3. Not sure if you remember Egan's first year, but he had a terrible case of the fumbles, as bad if not worse than Harry. I expect Taylor to improve much the way Egan did. You don't become an AFL player overnight.
However you are correct about the experience he has gained this year being priceless, will help him no end.
Hey, can anyone give more information on how to sign up for Scratching Post? Sifted through the list of social clubs but couldn't find it there, even when I searched for it. Cheers guys.
Better not to say here, I agree. But it would be good to have somewhere to post anything slightly sensitive that could give other clubs any edge. Just share it amongst trusted people.
I don't think it was a disgrace how they managed him at all. He was doing OK until the orthopedic implants stuffed his foot again. That is really just a complication of his injury and probably couldn't have been avoided. I think we should all keep our opinions to ourselves in this matter as we don't know all the medical facts about his injury and basing thing on heresay and supposition is really the disgrace here.
You are right . GFC has a history of injury mismanagement- particularly fractures etc. I wonder if it is just coincidence or a reflection of its lack of access to better specialists in a provincial town?[/quote]
His advice most likely came from a Melbourne based specialist. I'm not blaming the footy club, I'm blaming people externally involved.
What has happened to Matthew Egan is an absolute disgrace. Not only has he been completely mismanaged by incompetent medical staffs (surgeons etc.) who have given him poor advice but past precedent was completely ignored. James Hird had a stress fracture in his foot 'pinned' and subsequently missed an entire season of footy.
It is well known that such injuries should not be 'pinned' and rest is all that is required. It is fair to say that had it not been for particular people in the medical profession, Geelong would have had its AA CHB for the entire 2008 season!
I had the exact same injury, and believe me, my doctors didn't pick it up until the 10th week!! They originally thought I had nearly severed some ligaments, however it wasn't until later on that a CT Scan revealed the extent of the injury.
By then the bones had started to heal, keeping off it for another month or so totally healed the breaks (I had two, both the calaneous and navicular). From then on I had to undertake some building of the surrounding ligaments, to keep strength in the joint. Similarly, I undertook a special taping of the joint when playing sport which placed my foot at an angle where it was difficult to do a full eversion injury again.
For those who don't know, most likely Matty sustained an eversion injury, where the foot spins/rolls outward. This is most common with ankle breakages.
I'm totally over it now, has been ages, however post the injury I was running 31-33min 10km efforts, so I think with time Matty will get back to normal.
How does it give other clubs the edge knowing how he is progressing
It is not as if he would be training out of sight in Pre-Season if he is going to be back, and then make a shock return in round 1.
If he is selected for a match sides will plan with him in mind, if he isn't they won't.
I think whatyou are all forgetting is that Egan chose to have the procedure (ie the pinning) because it was his best chance of playing in the 2007 GF. He took a risk and it back fired. Hardly the clubs fault in management.
