Fact is, Knights had to make drastic changes to the Port list to get them competitive again and sourced players from outside the Port clique to do it, pushing some locals out in the process.
As you can tell by Neil Craig's appointment, they're a bit incestuous down there in Adelaide and like things being done the Port Adelaide way, so while the supporters may not have liked him, he made the hard decisions to rebuild their list and keep them competitive

I wouldn't read too much into this. Bendigo Bombers were after a coach that was prepared to live in Bendigo. This narrowed the list down considerably, I think that Knights was one of a few that was prepared to do this.
