This guy is doing wonders at Essendon and it's about time people start acknowledging the effect great coaching has on clubs, especially clubs rebuilding.

The Bombers are playing a spirited brand of footy, almost every kid who comes in is playing above themselves, and they are look exciting.

We all bagged him, but Knights is doing what most coaches seem to find impossible. He is rebuilding and reinventing the Bombers, and ahead of schedule. Another Clarkson type IMO, and although he has a long way to go to take this team to a premiership he is ticking all the boxes. Hawks and Bombers hate each other but I have always had the most respect for Essendon of any other club. Not suprising that when faced with the hardest challenge imaginable (replacing Sheedy) against all public opinion they seemed to have got their guy.

he has developed the players very impressively.
when they win a flag alot of credit will have to go to kevin sheedy though. drafting speed when the game was in its boring west coast/ sydney low scoring era. that man is a genius.

full credit to matthew knights and i gotta say i would be a hell of a lot more excited to be a bombers supporter than a carlton supporter right now, when they are on they look unstoppable.

carlton and essendon have been the two down the bottom for the last few years, and all the hype and excitement is around carlton. but to see the speed and movement from essendon when they are moving the ball at their best would get me bloody excited.

im not gonna get into a sledging match but mark harvey has inherited alot of duds and has at least got us in the right direction for once. anyways this thread isnt about fremantle or carlton. all i was trying to say is that it would be bloody exciting to be a bombers supporter.

If he was a terrible coach, it wouldn't be working. If he is able to take the best of those below him and put all it all together successfully, why would that make him a bad coach?

Put it all together? They tell him exactly what to do. They will bring this to the boards attention and the board will put a spy in the box one game to write down notes and he will be fired soon after. Believe it.

Knights was a mentor to these young kids before he became coach and the results are there for all to see.

Everyone tipped the Dons for bottom 2 for the lasdt 2 seasons. Enough said.

You do realise that Knights handpicked all but one of the assistants himself?

Prescott, Richardson, Hickmott, Camporeale were not there under Sheedy. The only assistant who he didn't personally hire was Gary O'Donnell.

So in other words, if his strategy is just to use his assistant coaches then he can take credit for all of it since he was the one who chose them all.

I'm doubtful that you're knowledgeable enough about our players (how the kids are progressing through the WAFL etc.) to make such a statement, seeing as though you live on the other side of the country and all.
