[/B]Essendon are prepared to use their West Australian first-round AFL draft picks Paddy Ryder and Scott Gumbleton in trade negotiations for Chris Judd, according to captain Matthew Lloyd.
Essendon are considered among the front-runners to sign the former West Coast captain and Brownlow Medallist, who will return to his home city of Melbourne.
The Bombers recruited Ryder at No.7 in the 2005 national draft and Gumbleton came to the club at No.2 last year.
They will have the No.6 pick in this year's draft.
"We'll have pick six and where I think West Coast are going to like Essendon is we have plenty of great West Australian young talent at our footy club," Lloyd said on radio station Sport 927.
When asked if he was happy that Essendon might trade away Ryder or Gumbleton, Lloyd replied: "no, I'm not, but he's the best player in the comp and it's going to hurt.
"Saying that, I'm not sure how the young players feel."
Leroy Jetta is another former WA player who might feature in negotiations.
Lloyd also was confident Essendon would have a new coach by trade week.
The lack of a replacement for Kevin Sheedy is seen as a handicap for the Bombers as they try to attract Judd.
Lloyd said the senior coach selection was now down to three, one of whom is believed to be Hawthorn assistant and former Essendon premiership player Damien Hardwick.
"Our senior coach is going to be someone who's pretty strong-disciplined, a younger coach who's raring to go," Lloyd said.
"That will happen before trade period, when Chris comes about."
Regardless of the scenario, Lloyd made it clear Essendon are determined to snare Judd.
"We're going for it ... we feel that's exactly what we lack in the midfield, that pace that we just haven't had," Lloyd said.
"We've put that into the side with (Jason) Winderlich and (Andrew) Lovett and those types of players, but where I reckon we've struggled is ... the 2000-01 drafts, we've got no-one left.
"We really probably dropped the baton there.
"To get a 24-year-old who's the best player in the competition, we're all for it."

He stuffed up & then Peter Jackson had to cover for him.

Lloyd is always thinking about himself, the reality is he won't have any more team success in his playing days at Essendon.

Did you hear the interview ? The reporter has paraphrased Lloyd's comments to put a completely different meaning to them. It is gutter journalism at its finest.

Matty Lloyd has just rung up KB and Greg Denham, refuting that he mentioned Ryder and Gumbleton.

He did not mention their names, he only responded to a question and mentioned we have plenty of WA talent.

Journo's are twisting around what he said to sensationalize the whole thing, surprise, surprise

The Eagles need someone to wander around in no-man's land 35m out from goal and milk free kicks, don't they? Jackson, get on it! It might just save your hide.

He doesn't HAVE to answer any question or comment on anything. He DID mention "WA players" and I see he also talked about having a "young coach" next season (Daniher is still on the shortlist isn't he?). Not appropriate and not very sensible things for an experienced player to be saying, no matter what his role is at the club. Or have I got this completely wrong?

I had hoped this was over after the clarification last night. Delete thread anyone? It's false we know its flase, Lloyd says its flase, Jackson said its false and Dodoro said its false. Non issue= delete thread, please?

Everybody knows that the players that are mentioned could be traded. Notice how the club hasn't categorically come out and said they are off the market?

However, Judd needs to pick us as his club before we need to release and concepts of trades/picks and for everyone to start worrying about who or what will be leaving.

Why delete a thread when a link to the source has been provided.
A deleted thread should constitute fabricated comments by the poster.
Not an article that is reported by a journalist with a link to the article itself provided with the thread.
Whether or not you agree with the article written. (I tend to agree the journalist has twisted Lloyd's comment's to make a sensationalised piece, that would otherwise be a non news worthy story). The story was still published on the MSN site for all to read. So if comments and discussions can't be conducted about articles like this. What is the point of having Message Boards such as Big Footy. com in the first place.

Especially when you consider that people may read the article and decide to start their own thread about it starting the whole thing again. This way they can read this one and see that it's a crock of shit.

Haha interesting choice of words

Lloyd jumps the gun over Judd

Chloe Saltau | September 19, 2007

ESSENDON captain Matthew Lloyd has declared the Bombers aggressive contenders for Chris Judd, but the club categorically has ruled out returning emerging stars Paddy Ryder and Scott Gumbleton to their native Western Australia to secure the best footballer in the land.

"Absolutely not. They are not on the table," said Essendon recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro last night.

"They are the future of our club and the process for Chris Judd is that we have to speak to him first and he needs to decide what he wants to do, then we'll decide what we are prepared to give up. But I can categorically tell you that those boys are not being mentioned."
