Will be blubbering on gameday for sure

I really hope we can get a win for Pav - it's not like we can finish any higher.

Deserves all he gets and more. One of the best and probably the most versatile player I've seen play the game (mid/late 90s onwards). Will likely get to 700 and hopefully there are a few sentimental selections for the game

definitely hall of fame and hopefully a legend

I love Pav... but current day players up for Legend status down the track would have to be premiership winners I'd think?

His games tally, being a top bloke and AA selections in 3 different positions aren't really enough for it? Kevin Murray; won brownlow. Lockett; greatest goalkicker ever/brownlow from FF. Bob Skilton 3x brownlow. Bunton Snr 3x brownlow.

Which leaves 2 without brownlow/premiership(s).... and he ain't no Roy Cazaly or Ted Whitten to the game!

I raise you Robert Harvey

Pav was the payback to the AFC for McLeod. :(

Just an absolute superstar who will go down as one of the greatest players to play. Inspirational Captain and whenever you needed that moment he was there.

Matthew Pavlich>>>>>>>>>>>>Ken McGregor

Distinct two stage career.
First 8 years spectacular.
Second 8 years he was a little disappointing for mine. Other than a purple patch for around half a season about 2012ish.
Hasn't won AA honours since 2008...hard to believe after the form he showed in his early-mid 20's.
Dropped off far too young, his return as a fwd the last 8 seasons almost same as Drew Petrie.
Popular champion that deserves to be remembered for the first half of his career.

Only 8 elite years followed by 8 great years :(

What could have been.......

Been an absolute privilege to watch his whole career. I'll renew my membership next year but it won't feel the same.

8 years of disappointment is a stretch. 2009-2012 were actually his 4 best years in terms of Brownlow votes after 2005-2008.

B&F winner 2011, 2nd 2009, 3rd 2010, 4th 2012, leading goalkicker 2009, 2010, 2012, league leading goalkicker after finals in 2012. Reasonable return for a bloke who was played out of position as a midfielder in 2009 and 2011. Drew Petrie can only dream of a 60 goal season at his peak let alone in his disappointing final 8 years. Also kicked 26 finals goals from 2010 onwards in 11 games which was important to Freo's finals tilts in that time.

Wonderful servant of the Fremantle Football Club and the AFL.

I would have given anything for him to come to the Pies but I highly respect that he gave everything he had to his club.

Underrated in Victoria but is an absolute champion of the game and will be missed.

Thanks and best of luck in the next chapter Pav.

huh ?
so you're saying he went downhill after 2008, but are trying to say the opposite ?
B&F winner 2011, 2nd 2009, 3rd 2010, 4th 2012, leading goalkicker 2009, 2010, 2012, league leading goalkicker after finals in 2012. Leading goalkicker at Freo ? Who else have they have for him to compete with ? That's like saying Goldstein has been Norths best ruckman the last 5 years.
Leading goalkicker in 2009 ? He kicked 28 from 22 games. Were they truly that shithouse ? You want to hold that up as a champion achievement ? I doubt he'd remember it as his finest hour
2010 he kicked 54 during HnA season...24 less than Coleman Medal pace. Not bad, Petrie's average over the following 4 years.
BnF winner in 2011 ? He Avged 22 Disp, 3.5 marks and kicked 21 goals. That makes old man Riewoldts current season look nothing short of bloody spectacular.
2012 was that purple patch I mentioned. Nothing to talk about first half of season (which is why he never made AA that year) but hit an out of the box rich vein of form second half.

Don't knock Petrie :drunk: He was doing a lot of ruckwork during that time as well as playing KPF. He kicked 48, 58, 48, 50 whilst acting as a 2nd ruck on occasions around the same time you mention.

No need to embellish the second half of his career. Noone is saying he was poor or even average...just relatively disappointing compared to what he achieved up until about 2008. Call it high expectations if you like but he seemed to drop off a heck of a lot at a time he should have been in his prime.
Doesn't alter the fact he's a champ.

I'm saying on that metric it was better than 2000-2004, and you are the one suggesting his first 8 years were the best.

LOL.

Fremantle stank in 2009, hence Pavlich led the goalkicking playing as a midfielder. Not his or their best season but better that sitting in the goalsquare getting cold.

Pav is judged on H&A goals only but Petrie on all goals? Righto. Petrie's average over 2011-2014 was actually 51 per season, 48 if you take out finals.

Not really sure why you insist on bringing Nick Riewoldt into it. Riewoldt has never played as a midfielder, merely a high half forward cum wingman. 86 clearances and 87 tackles for Pav in 2011. 39 and 12 for Riewoldt this year. Pav has still kicked more goals from 2010 onwards anyway despite playing 2011 as a mid and missing half of 2013.

The bolded is a bit silly since you made the post to downplay the latter half of his career. Buddy's gone downhill from 2008, should we judge him on that?

He was a youngster 2000-2004 and even played time as a key defender. Why wouldn't his Brownlow votes improve ?
North played 2 finals in those 4 years...they stank as well. So now you would prefer if I somehow made up games that never happened and pretend Petrie was playing so i can compare ?...or would it be more sensible to finals out of the other guy so they CAN actually be compared ?? Bugga me you're a strange one.
You;ve got a funny way of looking at this stuff. I;m guessing you're just one of those argumentative types with a crap memory that hates looking like a dill.

I mentioned Riewoldt due to your dumb embellishment of Pav's 2011 season ya nutter. You reckoned Pav's 2011 was somehow great, yet a quick comparison with Riewoldts current season as a like for like type player in a like for like season playing a like for like patch of footy is a pretty damn good way to check it out.
Turns out that it really wasn't that good at all, 22disp 3.5 marks and 21 goals from 22 games isn't exactly earth shattering is it. You missed the start of the season when Riewoldt was going at 22disp 11 marks and 20 goals from just 7 games playing midfield ?
You cant change reality or history just to suit whatever silly crap you want to believe.
If 22D,3M and 21 goals from 22 games got Pav a BnF then they must have been truly deeply and horribly shithouse coz his 2011 was nothing to write home about.

Why do u want to take away decent player comparisons in order to spruik the guy ? Do you think it better I compare him with a designated KPF I 2011 or perhaps a hardnut clearance midfielder would be better ?

Petrie and Pavlich have both kicked a bit over 300goals over the last 8 seasons. Some of that time Pav has played in the middle and some of that time Petrie played in the ruck.

Is the correct response "I luv pav, I want his babies, best player ever" ?? Is that what u wanted to see ?
Fact is he's had 2 distinct halves to his career...and the second half has been a tad underwhelming apart from that vein of form second half of 2012.

Franklin has never been as good as 2008. He's always been a KPF though. Why would you even bring him up compared to Pavlich who has played multiple roles.

Pav is the best of his generation by a mile. He is streets ahead of Reiwoldt-Brown and Co.

None of them have played key forward, key back or midfield as much as he has and as good as he has.

Played 353 games coming from the west is a a huge effort, given all the travelling he has done is remarkable, only West Aussie players and supporters will understand how much of an achievement that is.

i think a fitting tribute out West would be to name one end of the new stadium the Pavlich end for all games, not just Freo games.

Rewoldts season this year has been outstanding, but he hasn't played solely as a mid in a crappy team. Rewoldt doesn't attend the center bounces cause he has a midfield.

Pav was the n1 mid. Went in for center bounces, won clearances, leading goal kicker still being a mid in a bottom 4-5 team surrounded by youngsters he was also trying to develop & captain.

Saying his last 8 seasons were disappointing is ridiculous.

2012 he was AA squad & should have made the team with over 60 goals. He then single handedly destroyed Geelong in an elimination final with 6 goals.

2013 he was injured half the year, kicked 25 goals then captained the side in the huge final upset in Geelong kicking 2 goals, Freos 1st prelim at home with 2 goals & Kicked 3 in the GF.

2014 he kicked 46 goals - not terrible for a defensive game plan playing team

2015 Kicked 40 goals

2016 he's kicked 30 goals in his final season in a terrible team that can't hit a target going fwd. he's also missed 5 games being rested, so output simulator to the last 2 years.

Maybe I'd give you the last 2 as being down, but you have to decline at some point.

Roo and Brown never needed to play midfield. You can't knock them for that. When Pav was dominating in the centre, Roo and Brown were still dominating up forward. Pav playing defense hasn't happened in a long, long time, and it was only a short tenure in the backline when he did play down there. I'm sure Roo and Brown could adapt and become more versitile if it were needed for team requirements. Champion players like these 3 will play well no matter what or where. Similar to James Hird. I mean look at Roo now, he has had no problem playing in the midfield this season.

Pretty shit if you ask me. The fact that hes stayed loyal despite being able to go home and prob double his coin.
