A Corr replacement, maybe? I worry he's a bit undersized to be a viable Darling replacement as our third KPF.

Darling isn't a big physical specimen, they are not that much different from each other. And like you say, he'd be an upgrade on Corr if you wanted to play him in the backline.

But North also probably need another big gorilla key back, they have a lot of Corr and Logue and Pink size types who are not quite big enough to match the taller forwards.

Yup. We really need two tall defenders this offseason so Logue has to compete for his spot, and Pink and Corr become depth.

In terms of the options available:

Butts isn't a world-beater, but he'd be an improvement on Pink. Possibly even Logue. The UFA status is handy. Though he feels more like a solid piece rather than the AA defender you build your backline around.

Other options:-
  • we could offer Carlton a couple firsts for Weitering to kickstart their overdue rebuild. Whether the Blues are capable of planning for the longterm betterment of the club is debatable though.
  • we are probably pursuing Trainor. OOC next year. His family are very prominent North supporters, and at his current rate of development, he could plausibly play fulltime KPD next year.

There's also the issue of Luke McDonald. Competes well, heart and soul type, but doesn't have athletic points of difference or decent skills. If Archer hadn't done his ACL in the preseason, we'd have a far better sense of how dependable he'll be as McDonald's successor. Likewise, we really need Hardeman and Goater to get a decent run at it this year too.

In the meantime, it makes sense to look at upgrades in the medium defender dept as well. Surely Doedee will be considering finishing his career in a club that actually plays him in the seniors. Also noticed your own Mark O'Connor is a UFA - perhaps he'd make an ok McDonald replacement too?

In any case, upgrading two of our defenders this offseason should be the bare minimum expectation. There's a case we should be bringing in three, or even four.

Not a very good player but is one of a few that will be available so that can inflate his value.
3rd round for me.

Miles better footballer than Jed Walter and people think he will go for pick 70 while Walter is worth a top 10 picks

Crazy. If I'm North id trade 2nd rounder and just get it done
Thats just your opinion but you are wrong
Max is a year older but his numbers are not as good and is shorter and less athletic

Not sure what you are basing your comments on or ahy you hate Jed Walter so much
The kid will be a top 5 foward in the game withing the next 3-4 years

I really dont get the hate

Jed is a massive talent and only 20 years old with a developed body and massive upside that is a supreme athlete
averaging 2 goals a game as a kid that has played less than 40 games.
He is the best KPF with upside in the league.

North would be crazy not to throw the kitchen sink at him and every team in the AFL should be asking the question

Any high profile KPF who doesn't shoot the lights out in his first season or two seems to attract a lot of hatred, like they're supposed to instantly be a gun at age 19-20.

People were ragging on Shannon Neale for being a flop after a couple of seasons, you guys have probably copped it over a couple of your young talls.

Looks like its the instant satisfaction generation of the current times that people have become
Back when i was younger it was accepted that a KPF /KPD would take 2-3 years of learning and developing their craft to be expected to become gun players unless ofcourse you shot the lights out from day 1 like a Richo , Dermie , Carey , type freak

Neal is 23 and was only just last year he become a reliable KPF that did his time and learnt his craft
Jye Amiss is a KPF that has only really showing signs of what he will be at 22 years of age
4-5 years then lets see where these boys are at before writing them off

I think his game on Sunday may have lost Jesse Hogan his job, if Hogan staying means Gruze leaves, giants would be stupid to resign Hogan.
