Mackie's punch did not even get a reaction from the Hawthorn player that he struck. Either that Hawthorn player is as tough as nails or Mackie's punch to the mid section was about as hard as being hit with a daisy.

Reports: Simon Taylor (Haw) reported by umpire Ryan for misconduct (kneeing) on Joel Selwood (Geel) in the first quarter.
Max Rooke (Geel) reported by umpire McBurney for engaging in rough conduct on Sam Mitchell (Haw) in the third quarter.
Luke Hodge (Haw) reported by umpire McBurney for striking Tom Lonergan (Geel) in the third quarter.
Andrew Mackie (Geel) reported by umpire McBurney for striking Brent Renouf (Haw) in the fourth quarter.

from the AFL Website.

I thought Mitchell was also reported for his flying elbow on selwood in the first quarter?

If there is vision of Steve Johnson on Hodge i think he may go as apparently it was pretty bad.

Out of those I think Max Rooke will get off as will Luke Hodge as they are both very soft reports. Taylor and Mackie will be in trouble with Taylor more than Mackie as I think there was two movements for Taylor so a deliberate move to put the knee into Selwoods head.

I saw the SJ incident out of the corner of my eye (presuming we are talking about the one on the HFF after Stokes was crunched). From the Olympic stand, it looked like he hit him clean in the face. I immediately though that he was going to be gone for a few weeks. I really want to see the replay as others are saying he missed or made little contact.

Similarly the bump Buddy tried to put on Selwood in the first half would have been interesting if he made contact. Selwood moved just at the right moment to avoid the full hit. Buddy put the elbow up, so if he hit he would have been in big trouble and most likely spent a few weeks on the sidelines.

All in all, I thought the Hawks were trying to be too physical at times and were generally reckless. A couple of geelong players were taken down late or crunched after disposing the ball. I'm glad Geelong matched the toughness and in most cases did it fairly by tacking and bumping hard but in a legitimate way. I though our tackling and pressure was sensational in the first 3 quarters and our toughness for the ball, unlike the man for the Hawks on some occasions, was fantastic.

The 3 Geelong boys shouldn't have to front up to the tribunal.

Taylor should get time off, the weak knee dropper.

Hodge will probably get a week for the punch but shouldn't, but I think he should go for the head high slide into Chapman on the boundary. Ugly, head high and reckless.

If the Match Review doesn't cite him for that, they are a joke! Exactly what they've been handing out weeks for over the past few years.
He will probably get a a few points for the punch on Lonergan, although there was VERY little on it, but like half of Hawthorn, he's got carry over points.

witsend - there is a multi quote function on these boards! Use it.

Rooke should get off, but how good was his game last night!? His 2nd half at least, made me proud to wear the 33 on the back. Gun.

You still got the same jumper from when Paul Corrigan played ? ;)

as much as i hate to say it, i dont think there was anything wrong with that hit. had eyes only for the ball and had the sense to turn his body when attacking it rather than dip his head and try for a free kick. it was just one of those things that happen in footy.

i looked at the back of the paper today and saw steve Johnson giving hodge a "left hook"(their words not mine), have to say i didn't see it while watching the first 3 quarters, from the pics they made it look serious with hodge falling over. They also showed afterwards dew with his hands around johnsons neck! the thing that got me was they did the whole back page picture on the incident then had the match review about 3 pages in with hardly a mention of it. have to say i hate the west australians "anti geelongism".

Although yes if another team did that to one of ours i would be wanting a couple of weeks, but have we even confirmed if their was contact yet?

Go Stevie!

Max Rooke's Report was so so soft... if he gets charged then the guy that kneed selwood in the face should get 3 times the amount Rooke gets

McBurney was obviously confused - he thought he was umpiring netball. And how will he explain Hodge's booking when he stated clearly that Hodge was going for the ball (well maybe, a little late methinks, but frankly it was making Lonergan earn his mark - not reportable unless you are wearing a skirt or playing junior footy)? If we use McBurney's confused logic thoughout the year ("yes you were going for the ball but you hit him in the head" he said to Hodge) expect there to be > a dozen reports every round. Soft rubbish. If in doubt, leave it to the MRC Macca, you won't look such a fool that way.

I have a feeling that there is pressure on the umpires to book these incidents and not leave it to the MRP.

Mackie and Rooke are just going to change their names by deed poll to Adam Goodes until after the MRP throw out both cases.

There's no doubting Mackie's report. It's just a matter of what he gets offered. A reprimand, possibly one week?

I'm not as convinced that it was hard enough to warrant anything, but who the hell knows under the current system? We'll just have to wait and see where the roulette wheel ends up... Likewise with Maxy, if that's now reportable there will have to be about 80 reports a game. That sort of thing happens at every stoppage.

The only one I am really sure about is Taylor. He should get four at least.

I just laugh, I used to get angry but now I just laugh. Reports, free kicks, non calls... the game is becoming farcical.

The game is a joke, Taylor was the only one that deserved a report and he's an absolute dog for what he done, hope he gets 4, no place for kneeing in any sport and it was 100% intentional.

Surely Rooke's report will be thrown out? He should just tell them his full name is actually 'Nick Maxwell Rooke', and that the bump was accidental. Or would his defence have been more sound if he'd broken Mitchell's jaw?

From where I sat it looked like a hip-and-shoulder and an Oscar nomination to Mitchell. The only potentially questionable part was the timing.

Mackie's hit went unnoticed by Renouf, but even still - a punch to the middle is further out of the rule book than a hip-and-shoulder, so we'll probably lose him for a match.
