I was thinking About this David Ellard is built rather strong maybe he could do Brock Mclean job as he seems to be playing injured or has poor form? I know he gives away about 7cm and a lot of games but what do you reckon. His served a apprentice in the VFL for a couple of years and passed while many others have been patchy. His name gets mentioned in the best most weeks.

I know it's only VFL but he won't get much of a look on our list next year if he doesn't crack a game this year. He did ok in that 1 game against West Coast but i can't remember if he was quick or has good pace.Has Ellard got that in him to do the dirty job and block for Judd? What do you think?

I know people will say his a kid not much experience or no good but Joseph was the same and look what he did since he outplayed Ablett.

kicking is suspect, pace is suspect and is a long way behind the other small players we have in our side. He's probably not going to survive on our list, will hopefully find a place on another list, perhaps GC or GWS, if anything is a very good VFL player but is at the wrong club to be getting an AFL game.

I think a poll is in order chamber
Maybe we could off load him to GC!

Everybody knows my view on wablues own David Ellard

Has all that has been asked of him.
Could have performed better in the pre-season games
His window is closing but he has all that it takes (except height)
A work ethic second to none, skill, fitness, determination.
For a bloke with poor kicking and pace seems to win a hell of a lot of ball, make good decisions and be BOG often enough.

Hopefully he gets a few games, I like it that he is hard at it and hope the MC give him a chance before making any calls on him.

I have absolutely nothing against Ellard but if he is getting games then I will be concerned.

He is well back in the pecking order and for him to get a game it would mean our side has been seriously depleted by injuries or we are horribly out of form.

Ellard may well be doing everything asked of him and more, and I commend him for that, but the fact remains that he is miles off our best 22 at the moment.

If I were him I'd ask for a trade at the end of the season because he's not going to get the chance to show what he has to offer at senior level with Carlton.

I think this is going to be how it ends up although I see WAFL calling him.

No need for a poll but i did give a message to Gold Coast board on players they might want to look at who can't get a game.
The players who are unlikely to get a go as we have similar types.

I also put a word on Fisher and Wiggins if they do get cut they could still be valuable to a team.Gold Coast will have a large list near 50 players and they should recruit some big names with the kids.

They also need guys like Quinten Lynch,Brad Fisher who can kick goals and maybe someone like Simon Wiggins in a pocket although maybe a little old. They will get a flogging if they have no experienced forwards.

They will have young quick midfielders with possible Ablett and another great midfielder.Lynch and Fisher would be good for them if both clubs choose to not renew their contracts at the end of season.

He doesn't need a trade at the end of the year he will be delisted or put on the list. Some club will take him for nothing if they see something Gold Coast,Eagles or Dockers.

I know he was not happy about the situation pre-season so if he is not given a life line he will walk.

If Mclean doesn't make it back, Ellard should be given another game before the end of the year.

Size shouldn't count against him.

Deserves a go if he keeps playing well in the VFL and working hard.

:thumbsu: Spot on...needs to be given another chance. Although apparently if you kick 4 goals in the 2's you'll be automatically called for the seniors....

To those knocking Ellard, alot of people probably said similiar things about Barlow when he was stuck in the VFL.

Sometimes these guys just need to be given a proper chance.

Ellard played his last game for the Blues in 2008. Since that time he has improved his disposal, winning more ball and is often BOG for the Bullants.

He deserves a chance at senior level.

Well he seems to have improved, seems to keep improving and might be the player we need in our midfield. He deserves a spot on our list, we have put the work in and due to his improvement it's hard to say we haven't got it back. I'd like to see him get a run.

I think it was a mistake keeping David on the list this season (even if only as a rookie).

He is too far behind the pecking order - and given his specs, serves no real purpose to our line up.

I think we kept him for sentimental reasons.

We should have done the right thing by him, and put in a good word to one of the WA clubs where he would be most likely to get a senior run and showcase his talent.

A similar player to Ellard for us has been Jarryd Blair.

Very short and been playing consistently well in the VFL for the 18 months he's been a rookie.

He got a game on Saturday night albeit against inferior opposition but certainly didn't look out of place.

I'd definitely give him a go.

As it's been said already, his last senior game was back in 2008, his only game for us in fact where he picked up just 4 possies but he did manage a goal as well. I think this was a week after he had an unfortunate death in the family too, the poor fella.

It's been a long time since then and it seems he's improved in most areas in his game and could really give us something, I would not be against him getting a game anytime soon.

I'm in no way against giving him a go but I just can't see who we'd play him in front of.

Heading into finals we need as settled a lineup as possible - injuries derail that but there is not much point in playing someone just because they're playing well in the Bullants.

I like Ellard but he's not in our best 22, in fact he's a fair way off that. I just can't see a future for him at the CFC and I think it would be best for him to try and get a trade to another club at the end of the season.

Having said that I do like him and wish him all the best, whether that be at Carlton or another club - he has deficiencies but has worked incredibly hard to try and improve, with fantastic results. That shows a lot of character and I have a huge amount of respect for him.

I've said for a while now that it would be worth his while, if possible, to find a way onto GC's inaugural AFL list next season.

Well, say we do dump him off our list, do you think we would be able to draft a player to take his spot on our list over the next few compromised drafts that is better? I doubt it. Not sure he is that far behind on the pecking order, especially if our midfield gets more injuries and Mclean doesn't turn out and Grigg doesn't do any good.
