I heard on the radio the other day an ex-Geelong footballer was saying when Malcolm Blight was coaching them and they were losing he gave them a blasting before their next game saying 'If you don't win don't you even think about coming in on Monday' and that weekend Geelong played and got thrashed by like 10 goals. So Monday morning came and they were :D:D:D:Dting themselves, but they went to training and were getting ready when Blighty came in and said don't worry about getting changed lets go down to the pub and have a drink.
And guess what.. the next game they played one of the top teams and won by like 3 goals I think.

Maybe thats what they need to do.. put some fun back into it and bring the boys all together.
What do you all think?

I think the problem is, half of them are at the pub as we speak/type/whatever.

Lol..
Well maybe not a bar, but something where all of them are there including coaching staff, where they all just have some fun and work together as a group with no pressure.

really there is no magic formula that can get the players minds on the job. Blights approach worked for an entirely different set of players, so there is really nothing to say that this would work for our current players. Alot of the problem is mental, so I think a sports psychologist might be in order here.

Rather than going to the pub I think that someone like Tom Hafey should come down and give them an absolute flogging on the traiing track. They're simply not fit enough as they've displayed in the last two games especially. Compare how Collingwood looked in the last quarter to how we did...the two are poles apart.

Yes!

Agreed Lindner (Is that you Bruce?).

Maybe running up the sand dunes for a couple of hours will let them know what it's like to really be tired.

But Hafey coming down and giving us a flogging would only be detrimental....the sheer fact of having Hafey would be a bonus, but flogging us on the track won't necessarily make a difference. It will just tire us.

Fitness is gained during the pre-season, and maintained through the regular season.

I've heard a lot of Blighty's stories, philosophies, and the way he used to motivate players.

Some classic stories. I wish I was a fly on the wall in some of them.

The Cats need to skip training and head off to Rancho Relaxo. Then they can sit in a mud bath and listen to the tape 'All is well...all is well', either that or buy some magic beans.

With the exception of Gaj, Mooney and Corey, Geelong need to head down to the local Myers and get a refund for the skirts they all purchased on the friday night before round 3.

That's if you actually gain your fitness in the first place. What is spectacularly evident after the last 2 months is that Geelong are not fit enough as a team. This is absolutely unacceptable. What the hell were they doing from November to February? Even our peabrained coach admitted as much after the game.

Every AFL player has a duty to have the endurance of marathon runners. I've said this many times - they don't do anything else. Give me 300 grand a year to play footy, I'd never leave the training track. If anyone was watching we were beaten on Saturday by a team that was so much fitter it was ridiculous.

And the softly softly approach - meetings, leadership groups etc. - has worked so well hasn't it? 7 losses in 8 games. I'd argue exactly what they need is a training session so tough they can't walk afterwards. And I don't care how well they recover. The biggest problem is the players aren't pushing themselves. They're in a comfort zone. Turn up, run around, get a few kicks and never get dropped. It's up to the senior coach to drive them, unfortunately he's as weak and insipid as the players.

Although Rooke did not play as well as the last few weeks, i think he should be excused too. He busts his nut week in week out

That wasn't a Blight original. l'm pretty certain Mal Brown did that with a SANFL club well before Blight. Except they didn't go down the pub. Mal let them all in the training room on Monday, locked than doors as if to give them a spray, but instead produced a couple of barrels.

Don't think it will help us though.

I'd be adding Dasher to that list as well. He's consistently putting in. Unlike 85% of the team.
