Barlow is on about half of what Mundy is on. Whilst it's big dollars in regards to average wage Mundy should be performing twice as good as Barlow based on what he is paid. It's never that simple in reality but the money Mundy is on could have bought a player in the class of Ball, Dal Santo, Goddard to name a few. 750K/year would buy nearly any midfielder in the comp. We're currently paying Mundy an elite wage to get a richmond 2010 tambling performance from him.

KPR Im just surprised with Lyon, from an outside point of view you can see it is broken, I thought we would have been doing the 1% better, the blocking, tackling, and stronger around the ball.
The players who have been played just dont look hungry enough, or too many unfit for duty.
Harvey played Mora, Fyfe, straight up, surely Sheriden, Crozier, out top 20 picks should of been the sub by now?
Woosha played Gaff, who has to run around the shower to get wet in his first year.
He also said we dont have the legs to spread or run out games, Menagola must come under consideration later in the year.
When we have lacked forwards, what is Walters on our list for?
Sandi looks like he has been told to look after himself for the finals.

thats true, but i dont think that rushing a kid in when he isnt belting the door down is the answer... now that both crozier and sheridan have put together consistent solid performances, i think they should be considered...

think your being harsh on mundy, in that he is coming back from a significant injury, and when at his best is a much better player than luke ball. We are a better side with a fit david mundy, im not sure dal santo would offer that much more than mundy given that they paly a very similar game IMO.... and goddard may be in our jumper next year anyway

Am I being too harsh on him? I struggle to think of another player in that "elite pay" class that could come back and perform as poorly as Mundy has. Maybe Pavlich I guess.

We all know when the team is flying a fit Mundy is like the supercharger on top, 2010 proves this, it's pretty much the only time he got Brownlow votes. But his performances this year have been dour and his lack of defensive pressure is particularly morre horrendous than I've noticed before.

I think you would find that David Mundy has the highest wage in the league for a midfielder compared to Brownlow votes. Some here say brownlow votes are irrelevant but best on grounds aren't and there is a high correlation to brownlow votes and BOG.

Should elite midfielders often put in BOG performances? I think so. I'd prefer if our "Elite paid midfielder" was BOG most of the time, wouldn't everyone? I hope Barlow and Fyfe recover from their injuries well because then it would be irrelevant to even think about Mundy anymore but right now he is the target because he is the highest paid midfielder at our club and is performing like a 2010 tambling.

Well, a converted goal goes back to the centre and the whole thing starts again. I'm pretty comfortable with saying Carlton were the better side. Coaches votes and key stats agree with this.

I'm not so sure.

The gameplan relies on us being very effective by hand and foot.

Earlier in the year, our skills were on and we were fine.

During the Carlton game, our skills broke down for the first time this year.

We really should have been a fair way ahead at half time. But we butchered the ball horrendously and the heads dropped.

We've never got it back.

At least if you're gonna recruit flankers, you have to get guys with good skills.

We were:

1. even in contested possessions
2. won the clearances by 10
3. had 13 more tackles
4. even in contested marks
5. had 4 less clangers
6. DE% was better

Wut?

No matter how much you speculate it, neither can be wrong. It's clearly a moot point.

And Chops, we've been recruiting the flankers with the exquisite skills for years now, the problem is they can't convert it to a higher pressure environment and butcher it when any pressure is put on them. Hence why they look the goods at training.

Yeah, it was the reverse of the St Kilda game. Maybe that is the game Clay is thinking of?

Yeah, we rallied late, but at 3QT we were behind in everything except the clearances. Being 30 points down in the last quarter at your home ground against a side that isn't top four is hardly a good game. It was the first of a string of five ordinary performances, which is likely to continue for a good few more rounds. The last decent game we played was against St Kilda, and we've only played two for the year. At no stage would any reasonably minded have thought Freo is a finals quality side, aside from maybe after round 1.
