Interesting read. Seems Schwaby has a lot on his plate already-business plans, Nathan Carrol, new major sponsor, MCC realignment, debt demolition...

Interesting Read? How about holy f*ck! I know that anything reported in the paper needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but the following is more then a little concerning

The AFL Commission will next month decide the extent of its 2009 hand-out to the Demons which — without the debt demolition campaign and the AFL Annual Special Distribution — would have recorded a loss of some $3.2 million in 2008.

Instead, thanks to the debt demolition — which is close to $3.1 million — and the AFL's $1 million in special assistance, the club could record a reasonable profit but still have debt of at least $4 million.

God i hope that's not true:(

That doesn't make any sense to me.

If we had a debt of $5 million as of July 31, 2008, and we have since raised approximately $3 million to wipe off that debt, how can the debt still be at $4 million?

I dont think the debt included the forecast loss of this year which prob would have put debt out to maybe 7 million?

As far as i'm aware the $5,000,000 debt was including an operating costs loss this year of up to $2,000,000, meaning at the end of last year we had a debt of about $3,000,000.

So unless we've been mislead this whole time about the debt, then the article is incorrect. What i and i think everyone else has been lead to believe is that our debt will be down to around $2mil at the end of this year, so combining operating costs and the debt demolition we have had about a $1,000,000 profit this year

Im pretty sure i read that we have a debt of 4 million now because only 1 million of the 3 million we have received from debt demolition has been processed through to our creditors, and the further 2 million will be soon.

Glad to see the AFL has gone in to bat for us to some extent. Couldn't exactly envisage that 4 months ago. Good work Jimmy!

If the AFL really wanted to see the MCC become more co-operative with us and the other Tenants, maybe they could threaten them with finals fixtures when the current arrangement expires. I love the 'G' and the fact its the home of finals, but the MCC are in the box seat really, they own the home of football.
The AFL would have to accept lower gate sales (and some fans miss out) which again isn't great but I can't see any other bargaining chips for the AFL and the MCG tenants.
Don't see it happening but a thought..

Sure hope we can become the 'love child' of the AFL..

They wont want the capital city of Victoria folding, wouldnt look
good for footy, so I think we are pretty safe and im glad
to see the AFL are starting to warm to us..

I can't believe we have to go cap in hand to these pricks. I'd rather burn their stand down and stage a people's revolution to take over the G.

yeah, the only reason the ground is as big as it is is because of AFL and we are the rightful tenants and have been since the ground started, frickin' ungrateful bastards
