As a MCC/MFC for the past ten years, I often wonder why do the club give us a 11 home game admission ticket when we sign up if we already have our MCC paid up membership and can sit anywhere. It is totally useless. Besides the Scarf they send us, the main reason I join up Is to support the team.

$150 bucks for a scarf and match email from the coach is ok but why the 11 adult home game admission ???

satisfaction that you are financially helping the club that you love....
i'd buy memberships for everyone that i know if i had the coin....

I must say that $25 Age newspaper deal through being a member pays for itself and then some.

I signed up this morning, even if it is big and cumbersome to read.

I was thinking about this the other day when I was getting my membership and thinking why would I sign up for the $150 version when I could just sign up for the $40 version.... The 11 home games is a bit of a waste....

I was thinking maybe the club should organise a ticket to an event during the season instead of the home games ticket... Although I know there is a lot members maybe they could split it into two events...

Players and coaches in attendance - $100-$120 bucks a ticket (which is included in the MFC/MCC premium instead of the home games ticket) - beer wine, soft drink and a 3 course meal.... Could have a theme...
The club would make some extra coin by running raffles and silent auctions on the night and also MFC/MCC would have the option to by an extra ticket for partners...

Issue is that the home games ticket cost the clubs nothing but the event would cost money to stage.... The benefits would be that you could get more MCC members sign up for the premium membership because there is a direct benefit

You just have to view the membership as a donation to the club you love, not as a value for money purchase. You still receive voting rights, effectivly part ownership of the club.

I've always thought the MFC/MCC membership should be for 'away' Victoria games (I.e. the games we play in Geelong and the TD). These are the games MCC members currently have to pay for anyway, so if you price the membership not too far above the ticket costs of going to the away games I'm sure more would be interested.

Now that makes alot more sence. I wish you were working in the Marketing department Deestroy.

Deestory that does make sense... and FOOOTY thats how I view my membership... as a donation... but its about getting more MCC members to sign up instead of just giving a donation...

Most members from other clubs get up Melbourne's MCC members because they don't but a club membership but a driving factor for a lot of AFL club memberships is the tickets to the games... when people can't get to games they stop buying memberships... so thats why the $40 membership being included in the official stats was fanstatic by the MFC because really all MCC members are doing is donating and alot found the $150 a bit much...

If the club could give those members something for the $150 (away games etc) you would find the number of MCC/MFC would increase

Some great ideas in this thread. Ultimately it has to be attractive to an MCC member and doing some deals with the sponsors is a good way to start. The Age partnership is working well but i'd like to see some work being done with Volvo particularly considering quite a few MCC members would own one. I remember seeing some time ago when Primus was the new sponsor they released a popular phone and internet deal for the members so maybe something like that could be started up again.

On a slightly separate note, i bet taht if we were in the same position as the Kangas we would have a big membership increase. If the supporters that aren't members knew we weer in trouble they'd sign up rather quickly i suggest.
