McCarthy is rated very highly by Malthouse and the club, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't trust them. He needs to string a few games together, but over the last few years when Malthouse shows faith in a player generally they do come good at some point, Toovey being the number 1 example.
As to who will have the better career, at this point it's Beams. He's a gun already and will keep improving, fantastic player. McCarthy has a hell of a lot of catching up to do to match Beams, let alone surpass him.
