Has he been banned? Have I missed something?

What's happening here. I think some people are getting a little too sensitive and are unable to distinguish between real life and fantasy computer bulletin boards.

Where's the love, people? :confused:

Let's all try harder to develop a little thicker skins and not take it all so seriously, hey?

Well...

Apparently he called some poster on BigFooty a "***"... that certain poster reported the post to a mod, and McCartney got banned from that. I am not going to reveal the name of the poster... but I reckon that was a bit too harsh for McCartney? Surely he would've got a warning before getting the boot? I do not recall him doing anything insulting in the past.

But, like Mags, I think this boot is a permanent one. Such a shame over one litte incident, isn't it?

It is absolutely ridiculous. If everybody got banned for doing a couple of stupid posts hardly any of us would be left ;) Its not like it's the first time someone has said the word "***".

And in regards to the other thing he said, he obviously shouldn't have said it but it was just a spur of the moment response to an arrogant, elitist man who has been whingeing and sooking for months and takes Bigfooty far far to seriously. A man who also says things about other bigfooty members behind their backs and then gutlessly backs off from his comments by justifying them as a "perception".

Bring McCartney back Bluey.

Maybe he has, maybe he hasn't? But what constitutes abuse, and who decides what is going too far? Well obviously Bluey, but is it ONLY when it's reported. If it's not reported, does the abuse get left on the boards for everyone to read? I've had far worse slung at me both on boards and in chat by butchy_boy, and he's still trolling around.

Of course we can't all read every single post on every single board, and neither can Bluey or the mods, but I'd be pretty sure The Butcher has said far worse things than Macca5.

I must have missed the post Mc5 got banned for, but considering the amount of Dr Alf's posts which are non stop abuse & vitriole & have been for ages, yet still hasn't been banned, I find it quite bewildering. :confused:

Maybe a bit of consistency would be nice, unlike AFL Umpires. :D
 
I for one would like to throw my support behind the movement by bulldog1954 to bring macca5 back to the fray on bigfooty.One of the more humerous posters on these boards.

For what its worth I am no fan of Mcartney5 and to call someone a *** is really quite immature and really very low brow for want of a better term.

On this basis, If I had reported Rohan for calling me a fatso he would have been banned??????

But apparantly its ok for moderators to condone racism. Interesting.

And there's a thread on the General board now saying Nathan is a ***. Is that fine? Or because he's not a member and doesn't know that we're calling him that, is it less offensive for the gay among us?

How about a bit of a run down on protocol from the mod's so we know where we stand? What's ok, what's not.

Two things.
What has this got to do with racism?
How do reconcile your dislike of censorship with the fact that you report posts?
 
As to McCartney5 I have no idea. It's news to me.
 
There are a group of people who cop ALOT of SHlT from Macca5 on and off Bigfooty. I happen to be one of those people, however I must admitt this wasnt me who got him band. To be quiet honest I didnt even know he got band. Macca has alot of serious problems but even I have to admitt Bluey, that how Macca5 got band is totally beyond me. I wouldnt mind if Macca5 returned to Bigfooty, but he has to stop this nonsence.

Let me admitt, Bigfooty wouldnt be the same without Macca5 - Bring him back!

I have reported one post in my time on BigFooty which I thought was a confidential process

The thread which I reported was CLEARLY aimed at getting racist responses, one of which you posted, which whilst not racist, did nothing to stop what was ineveitable to follow.

And lo and behold the exact thing happened what I said would, and Bluey closed the thread.

I am referring to the thread about "do you know any aboriginals"

So, as far as trying to paint me as a dobber Fred, - good luck to you

So in answer to your questions

1) racism, fatism, homophobia are one and the same beast. Peddled by people who are insecure and need to put down others to feel better about themselves


2) consistency is what I am after. But, an opnion on a sensitvie issue that may be abhorrent to me is far different from a post which is DELIBERATLY written to incite racism or homopobia or whatever.

You are quite wrong in my motive for asking about post reporting. Far from trying to make you out a dobber, I am interested in the censorship comment. Granted, I don't have a strong view on the subject either way but can see the need for it at times. Some though, are against the idea of censorship at all, except occasionally. That concept I don't understand.
The aboriginal thread was being closely watched and at the first sign of heading the wrong way it was closed.
